“The Voice” coach Kelly Clarkson is gearing up for the premiere of the latest season of the show with a special “First Look.”
In the two-minute promo, we’re introduced to the show’s newest coach, pop superstar Ariana Grande. We also get a peek at some star contestants appearing on this season, and we hear what the other coaches have to say about Grande’s arrival.
Clarkson shared the “First Look” video on her Instagram page, posting it with the caption, “The Voice Season 21: First Look. @NBCTheVoice is back in only 19 days! I can’t wait for y’all to see this season!! It’s going to be incredible❤️ #TeamKelly#TheVoice
According to NBC, Clarkson’s already won three seasons of “The Voice” with her team. But she faces some tough competition in the form of Grande, who she fears several contestants will pick as their coach.
Coach John Legend feels similarly. In the promo, he said, “Ariana is so talented, has a very fine-tuned ear. It’s gonna be hard to convince someone to come to Team Legend, but I am gonna make my case!”
The video cuts to clips of Legend trying to persuade contestants to join his team. In the middle of one spiel, Grande hits her buzzer, and her hit song, “Thank U, Next,” interrupts Legend mid-sentence. The message is clear: Move along, John Legend. This contestant has other coaches to consider.
‘The Voice’ Coaches Discuss Addition of Ariana Grande to Newest Season
Though Clarkson and Legend expressed concerns over Grande’s competition, Blake Shelton has no worries.
“Ariana’s the new coach here, and I’m extending an olive branch,” Shelton said in a totally laid-back manner during the promo. Though he specified, “When I’m not in the mix, I’m trying to help the kid out.”
The promo jumps to a clip of Shelton saying, “Hey, that’s Ariana Grande. Look how awesome she is by the way.”
“What’s happening? Why is he being nice?” Grande immediately retorts.
“Never trust it,” Legend cuts in. “I don’t,” Grande replies.
We can’t wait to see the banter and camaraderie between the coaches this season. It sounds like Grande’s been a good mix so far, challenging the other coaches in a positive way. We also can’t wait to see some pretty incredible contestants.
“I’m super moved by how brilliant the performers are,” Grande says at one point during the “First Look” video.
Blake Shelton agrees. “Every now and then you get that artist that they just don’t realize what they’re cable of,” he says.
Clarkson added, “I love being a part of being able to give someone the opportunity and the chance to be able to do what I’ve been able to do.”
You can catch the next season of “The Voice” on Monday, Sept. 20 on NBC.
