Blake Shelton was fascinated with the hair of Kenzie Wheeler, the very first contestant on Monday’s The Voice season premiere.

And Shelton also loved Wheeler’s smooth country vocals. Kelly Clarkson anticipated that, too. That’s why she quickly blocked Blake Shelton from adding Kenzie Wheeler to his team.

Clarkson tweeted: “Business in the front… PARTY ON TEAM KELLY Y’ALL!! You’re right at home on Team Kelly.”

Yes, Kenzie Wheeler sports a mullet. Shelton described it as a “unicorn.” It met the mullet definition with business in the front and party in the back. But Wheeler also has a widow’s peak.

But while Wheeler’s hair gets him noticed, his voice is his calling card.

Who is he?

The Voice Contestant Kenzie Wheeler

Kenzie Wheeler is 22 and lives in Dover, Fla. That’s outside Tampa. He posts some of his songs on his Instagram account. He introduced himself there, writing:

“Here’s one of the first songs that I ever started singing back in the day when I started pursuing my music dream. Hope everyone is staying safe out there and is taking time to stay at home during covid19! “Here’s Beer With Jesus.”

He also likes to hunt and fish. That seems a natural fit, given he lives so close to the water. Another hobby is riding four-wheelers.

Three years ago, Kenzie Wheeler released a debut album, called “Dover.” It features 10 songs.

All the Voice coaches wanted Wheeler. There was some intense lobbying from Kelly Clarkson, Nick Jonas and Kelly Clarkson. But Wheeler chose Clarkson, the country girl.

The Voice kicked off its 20th season on NBC, Monday night, with its traditional blind auditions. Contestants perform and the coaches select who they would prefer to mentor.
