‘The Voice’: Olivia Newton-John Praises Ariana Grande for Cover in Season 21 Teaser

The Voice just released a fun Season 21 teaser that’s making Ariana Grande fans lose their minds and Olivia Newton-John is also here for it. The teaser finds the three returning judges, Kelly Clarkson, Blake Shelton, and John Legend, sitting around a campfire.

The three then see a “star” but it’s not any old star. It’s pop legend Ariana Grande, who is joining the show as the fourth judge this season, replacing Nick Jonas. Grande shows off just a fraction of her incredible vocal talent when she sings Olivia Newton John’s iconic, Hopelessly Devoted To You.

Olivia Newton-John shared a portion of the clip of Ariana singing to TikTok, saying “Wow! Love this rendition of Hopelessly Devoted To You [red heart emoji].”

Ariana has received critical acclaim for her masterful singing voice, so being on The Voice should be quite fitting for her.

‘The Voice’ Coaches are Excited to Welcome Grande In

The Voice not only pits the contestants against each other but the coaches too. Each coach selects teams, so there’s a lot of friendly competition. That being said, the three returning coaches are thrilled to have Grande join them.

“I’m excited about Ariana joining the show because it’s somebody new for me to beat,” Blake Shelton said at a virtual Q&A . “I’m tired of beating John every season — and Nick.”

In a typical John Legend fashion, he kept things a bit more sincere than Shelton.

“Ariana is one of the most gifted artists in our business today,” he said. “She is a huge, chart-topping artist with amazing vocal skills. I think so many of our fans out there truly love her, and I think she’s going to bring additional fans to the show, a different audience to the show, and I think it’s going to be great for all of us.”

He’s right. Ariana Grande has a legion of young superfans, many of which will tune into The Voice for the first time just to get to see their favorite pop star every week. Not only will Grande likely make a great coach, but she’ll be good for business.

That being said, it may add a difficult layer to the competition for the other teams. Some worry that Ariana’s fans will overpower the voting, making it harder for other contestants and coaches to win. In a conversation on The Kelly Clarkson Show, the three talked about that challenge. Clarkson and Legend admitted they were a bit afraid to face her.

Shelton, however, isn’t afraid of her fanbase.

“I’m not afraid of her fanbase. Where they at?” Shelton joked. “… Ariana fans, bring it on. I’m not afraid of Ariana. They pay me to win.”

You can see if Shelton can hold true to that statement when the show returns on Monday, September 20th on NBC.
