by Jonathan Howard

This is the time of year when networks like NBC announce their future programs. The Voice family is excited about a new singing competition coming. That’s right, another competition series based on great music. Should be fun!

Of course, there are a lot of new shows and new seasons of fan favorites coming to the network. There is a return of Law & Order coming up, but that’s not why music fans are excited. From the same network that brings you the great competition on The Voice comes a new show, American Song Contest.

The name doesn’t roll right off the tongue, but we can get a good idea of what this show is about. Fans should expect this to be a Eurovision-style series. So, perhaps there will be some regional competition from across America? Hearing new sounds, new voices, and new music is never a bad thing. Eurovision is one of the most visually pleasing and exciting music events in the world. If that same style comes to this new show, then it should be awesome.

As far as other items coming to NBC in the next year, there are a few. A quick list includes, This Is Us entering its final season, a second season of Kenan, new seasons of Young Rock and Mr. Mayor. That isn’t all either, a new drama The Endgame is coming as well as two comedies, American Auto and Grand Crew. Lots of great shows to look forward to for NBC viewers.

In the meantime, the long-running The Voice is still killing the ratings. Over the years, it seems that the show has perfected its formula. Along with Blake Shelton being the anchor, it has had so much success. That continued this week when the ratings came out and showed the show had over 6 million viewers.

‘The Voice’ Has Big Night as Season Heats Up

When the ratings were in and everything was all said and done, The Voice found itself feelings just right. With 6.7 million total viewers and a 0.8 rating in the demo, it led the way on Tuesday night. Along with the CBS show, FBI which pulled 7 million viewers, it stood out among the crowd. There are a lot of shows that have loyal fan bases, but the NBC singing competition is performing at a high level.

It isn’t just the ratings either. The contestants on the show are performing at a high level as well. The live shows have started and fans have started to vote. While some artists have been saved by their respective coaches already, they can’t keep getting saved. While some separate themselves from the rest of the competition, others will need to step up big to make a run at the final.

Whatever happens in the nitty-gritty of the contest, The Voice keeps pulling in great numbers. Folks are excited to see these live shows and that has reflected in the ratings.
