Which popular television show did The Waltons home appear in?

Undoubtedly, The Waltons’ home was full of love. Fans tuned in specifically to watch the way each character navigated life with their family. Some fans watched to reminisce about their own childhoods. Other fans looked to The Waltons as the family they never had but always wanted. Regardless of the reason why, The Waltons tapped into a sense of nostalgia that, as humans, most of us crave. And the family’s house on the show was a huge part of that. During an interview in 2014, Michael Learned, who played Olivia Walton on the show, talked about exactly why that longing for nostalgia made The Waltons so popular.

“A basic longing for nostalgia and family…I think people are hungry for something that touches them emotionally,” said Learned. “And the show made them laugh and it made them cry. And people wanted to feel…I think somehow that show centered people. People get to sit and feel everything is going to be okay,” said Michael Learned.

However, The Waltons weren’t the only guests in that home. In fact, the famous house also appeared as the Dragonfly Inn in the popular television series Gilmore Girls. The show starred Lauren Graham as Lorelei Gilmore and Alexis Bledel and Rory Gilmore. Lorelei moves to the small town of Stars Hollow to raise her daughter when she stumbles upon an Inn. As a single mom, Lorelei stays and works at a local Inn until she’s back on her feet. Years later, Lorelei purchases another inn and renames it, The Dragonfly Inn. The house may have received some modern updates for Gilmore Girls but it was just as full of love as it was on The Waltons.

You Can Stay at the Original Waltons Home

Wouldn’t it be cool to visit the actual home where the show started? Well, you can! If you’re ever in Schuyler, Virginia, you can visit The Walton Hammer House. The house is the actual home where The Waltons’ creator, Earl Hamner Jr. lived. Just like John-Boy, Earl lived in the home with his large family. Earl based the show on his own experiences growing up with a family of seven siblings and parents.

In 2013 a fan of the show purchased the home and maintains it so that fans from all over can visit and reminisce.
