The four-time Emmy-winning actress, Michael Learned, is going to join Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story. Once the co-star of The Waltons, she is taking on quite a different role in this television series.

However, Learned will be playing Jeffrey Dahmer’s grandmother in the Netflix show. She joins a cast with Evan Peters, Richard Jenkins, and Penelope Ann Miller. The series also will feature Niecy Nash, Shaun J. Brown, and Colin Ford.

There is not limited information available about Catherine Dahmer. So, this Netflix series might give the star of The Waltons the chance to explore the character. More importantly, the miniseries is expected to span the 1960s, 70s, 80s, and finish with his arrest in 1991.

Additionally, the show will likely be geared towards being a psychological thriller than other interpretations of his life. So, while the show will certainly document his life as a whole, the film makers will focus the series on asking why he was able to commit so many murders.

“The series dramatizes at least 10 instances where Dahmer was almost apprehended but ultimately let go.” The Netflix official tag line continues to read, “The series also is expected to touch on white privilege, as Dahmer, a clean-cut, good-looking white guy, was repeatedly given a free pass by cops as well as by judges who were lenient when he had been charged with petty crimes.”

The star of The Waltons has been in many crime series’ over the years, as well as a couple of TV movies. But, Learned has also been a part of several thrillers too. So, the part of Catherine Dahmer should not be overly foreign for her.

Jeffrey Dahmer, nicknamed the “Milwaukee Monster” or the “Milwaukee Canibal,” was convicted of 17 murders. Each victim was male, ranging from 14 years old to 36.

Consequently, he was sentenced to fifteen consecutive life sentences. However, in 1994, only two years into his sentence, he was found beaten to death in a bathroom.

For those who are into crime thrillers, this will certainly be one to keep an eye out for. It will also be interesting to see what role the star of The Waltons plays in the show.
