A reboot of The Wonder Years is coming to ABC and the network just dropped the first teaser. Don Cheadle Narrate’s the wholesome trailer. Furthermore, the star will narrate the entire reboot. The trailer, which is set to the original show’s theme song, finds Cheadle reminiscing over his childhood.
“It’s the little things that you remember all your life,” he says. “Your first hit, your first kiss, the first time your dad lets you know that he sees you… well, I still hadn’t had the other two, but, boy, did that third one feel good!”
The original wonder years centered around a boy named Kevin in a fictional “Anytown.” The storytelling is driven by the narration of his adult self as he recounts his childhood. The show, which aired in the late 80s and early 90s, was set in the turbulent late 60s.
The reboot holds a lot of refreshing similarities that’ll feel nostalgic for the fans of the original. However, it also provides a new perspective. According to the official description of the show, the re-boot is “a coming of age story set in the late 1960s that takes a nostalgic look at a black middle-class family in Montgomery, Alabama through the point-of-view of imaginative 12-year-old Dean. With the wisdom of his adult years, Dean’s hopeful and humorous recollections show how his family found their wonder years’ in a turbulent time.”
