Three’s Company star John Ritter definitely was an upbeat guy, or at least that’s the persona he let the fans see.

And way back in 1980, when he was in the middle of his Three’s Company run, an interviewer asked Ritter if he truly was an upbeat, positive kind of guy. Or was the actor just playing a character?

Bobbie Wygant interviewed Ritter. She worked for a TV station in Dallas and was known for putting her subjects at ease. A lot of her interview subjects were celebrity Texans or those with ties to the Lone Star State.

While John Ritter grew up in California, he had family who’d be watching the interview. John’s dad, Tex Ritter, the country singer and actor, grew up in Beaumont, Texas, and attended the University of Texas.

So, Was Image of Three’s Company Star Real or Fake?

So John Ritter, real or fake?

“It’s all the orange juice I drink,” Ritter cracked. The Three’s Company star couldn’t turn off the comedy. “The blood sugar, It’s good for you.”

Then Ritter brought up his mother, Dorothy Faye Ritter. She was an actress who was in four movies with her husband.

“I don’t know about up because there’s a lot of times when I’m down,” Ritter said. “I think I really am positive. I got that from my mom and dad. And my mom, for example, she wakes up like this ‘Hi’ [excited] and then to sleep ‘Good Night.’ [excited] From the hi to the good night, she’s like a sparkler.

“Me compared to her … I would be like a punk rock guy from the Dead Boys or something like that. … Compared to my mother who is just, she’s a skyrocket. I guess I reflect some of her positive energy. And I think I reflect some of my dad’s outlook on life, too.

“But I do have my moments where I’m a bit of a drag, I must say. “
