Here’s a plot twist that just might surprise fans of Netflix’s wildly popular “Tiger King” series. According to reports, Carole Baskin is willing to help Joe Exotic.

You read that correctly. Carole Basking is willing to help Joe Exotic.

And, while that may seem almost impossible to anyone who watched the documentary and witnessed the animosity those two individuals had for one another to believe such a thing could happen apparently it is, according to FoxNews.com. However, Baskin is only considering helping out her rival and get his prison sentence reduced on certain terms.

As viewers of the series will know, Joe Exotic was sent to federal prison for 22 years in early 2020. He was found guilty of violating the nation’s wildlife laws. Also, and probably more dramatically, Joe was found guilty of taking part in a plan to kill Baskin. Details about both of these crimes were shared in the “Tiger King” series.

‘Tiger King’ Star Carole Baskin Wants Joe Exotic to Support Federal Law to Protect Big Cats

As viewers of the “Tiger King” series will know, Baskin owns and operates a big cat rescue in Florida. So, it’s not surprising that her terms for helping Joe Exotic have his prison sentence reduced revolved around her concern for big cats.

So what is Carole Baskin asking Joe Exotic to do? Well, she reportedly wants him to show his support for a new law. This legislation would ban the ownership of big cats by private individuals. The United States House of Representatives passed this measure in December of 2020. However, it is yet to become a federal law.

Baskin’s husband, Howard, recently shared details about their stance on the issue with the Mirror. Howard also appears in the “Tiger King” documentary on Netflix.

“If Joe were to come out and say, ‘I now know what I did was wrong and I want to help. I would like to support passage of the Big Cat Public Safety Act and stop this breeding.’ If he were to do that, it might position him in a positive way for a pardon,” Howard reportedly said. “And, frankly, I might be willing to go and urge at least a reduction in his sentence.”

Carole Baskin Says Joe Exotic Should Help Save Tigers From Extinction

Carole Baskin also shared her thoughts about the issue with the Mirror.

“(Joe Exotic) could take all of this fame and become a hero who could save the tiger from extinction. We’re going to lose the tiger in the wild in the next few years if we don’t stop private possession that is creating this flood of cats into the illegal trade, which is a smokescreen for poaching in the wild,” Baskin said. “That is something he could do something with and get all the glory and fame he ever wanted and do a good thing.”

Fans will also know that Joe Exotic is not the infamous zoo owner’s actual name. His real name is Joseph Maldonado-Passage.

The story of Joe Exotic – or whatever you want to call him – will soon be told again thanks to a series airing on NBC. John Cameron Mitchell is slated to play Joe Exotic, while Kate McKinnon will play Carole Baskin. McKinnon, of course, is most famous for her work on “Saturday Night Live.”

Viewers might recognize Mitchell from his famous portrayal of Hedwig in “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” or on “Shrill” with Aidy Bryant.
