Tim Allen recently took to social media to let his fans know that the sitcom he stars in, Last Man Standing, will be back for its final season in January.
On Sunday, January 3rd, Last Man Standing will be back for the start of season nine. Sadly, however, this season will be the show’s last. Allen sent a message to his followers on Twitter on Thursday morning and included a teaser video of the new season.
“Mark your calendars people! @LastManStanding#NewYear2021,” Allen posted to Twitter.
The family comedy will be officially ending after the airing of season 9. ABC had originally canceled the show after season 7. But FOX picked up Last Man Standing and revived it for two more seasons.
Fox confirmed the series’ final season in October. Tim Allen is the series star and executive producer. He said in a statement that he considers himself lucky to have been a part of the show.
“I’ve been one lucky dude to have been part of Last Man Standing,” Allen said. “I so appreciate the incredible support from our fans over this near-decade of work. As we approach the ninth season, I just admire and feel grateful for all the hard work our wonderful cast and crew have done. We had all considered to end the show after last season, but together with Fox, we decided to add a year so we could produce a full season to create the gentle and fun goodbye. I’m looking forward to a memorable and hilarious final season.”
Last Man Standing has been a hit show for FOX, and a smashing success with fans. The show is consistently high in the network’s rankings, and will now finish strong with an impressive 9th season.
Following the show’s premiere on Jan. 3, it will then move to its regular day and time, Thursdays on Fox.
Tim Allen Returns to Filming Amid Pandemic
The final season of the Last Man Standing began filming back in October. However, in order to do so, the cast and crew had to undergo daily COVID-19 tests. Allen remained as lighthearted as possible about the testing.
“So happy to be back working with my TV family on #LastManStanding!” Allen wrote. “Im beginning to enjoy the daily nose swabs. Should that be concerning?”
Fans are beyond ecstatic for another season – and thankful to the cast and crew for filming the show even under difficult circumstances.
Meanwhile, fans of Tim Allen shouldn’t be worried about his disappearance. The comedy icon has plans to reunite with Richard Karn for their own “fix it” show – Assembly Required.
The two are executive producing the new competition show. According to UPI.com, the show is a competition reality series that will “showcase builders from across the U.S.”
Assembly Required will hit the History Channel on Feb. 14 of 2021.
