Tom Selleck has been a major face on TV for decades, and most recently in the CBS show “Blue Bloods” since its premiere in 2010. The show is now in its 11th season. Rest assured, he isn’t planning on leaving the show anytime soon.

Before that, Selleck had been in projects such as “Magnum, P.I.,” “Three Men and a Baby,” “Quigley Down Under,” “Mr. Baseball,” “Lassiter,” and “Friends,” amongst many other notable TV and film roles.

Tom Selleck, alongside his tough-guy acting and bushy mustache, has been acting since the ’60s. Is he thinking about possibly retiring soon?

Tom Selleck Retirement

Selleck is often in the tabloids with publications claiming that he is considering retirement. He is currently 76-years-old.

However, all these claims are false. Selleck has never publicly said he was considering retirement or leaving his role as Commissioner Francis “Frank” Xavier Reagan on “Blue Bloods.”

According to Snopes, a fact-checking website, these claims of Selleck leaving the show are not at all based on fact. Headlines or ads that read “Tom Never Again in ‘Blue Bloods'” or “Tom’s Final Words before Leaving the Stage Forever” are all false clickbait-driven headlines.

People who clicked on these links reportedly ended up on a site that was trying to sell season 11 of the show for $27.

Many of these claims surfaced in January 2021. COVID-19 had delayed the overall premiere of a new season. Fans of the show can rest assured that news of cancellation or Selleck’s departure is not verified.

In fact, according to TV Series Finale, the ratings of the CBS show are still riding high. The latest episode on March 5, 2021, had a total of 6.3 million viewers with a 0.47 in the 18-49 demographic. The show has not dipped below 6 million viewers at all this year.

Nearly Indiana Jones

Since Selleck isn’t retiring soon, there are more opportunities for future roles for the Hollywood actor.

While his face is now synonymous with “Blue Bloods,” Tom Selleck got one of his biggest breaks in the industry through “Magnum, P.I.”

However, he could have had another major role as well.

According to Southern Living, Selleck was almost cast as Indiana Jones in the 1987 movie, “Raiders of the Lost Ark.” Fans of the movie know that this is one of Harrison Ford’s most significant roles, amongst many others. He was unable to take the role due to a contract he had with “Magnum P.I.”

“After I did the pilot for Magnum, I tested for Indiana Jones and got the job. Steven [Spielberg] and George [Lucas] my newest pals at the time offered me the job and I said ‘Well I’ve done this pilot,’ and they said, ‘Well thanks for telling us. Most actors wouldn’t do that, but we got cards to play with CBS.’ Turns out CBS wouldn’t let me do it. They held the offer out for about a month. Harrison Ford hates to hear this and Harrison this is your role and your indelible in it, so it’s just an interesting story,” Tom Selleck said in an interview.

It seems like both actors got highly influential and career-defining roles regardless.
