Tommy Lister, Known for Legendary Role as ‘Deebo’ on ‘Friday’, Dead at 62

Famous actor Tommy “Tiny” Lister has died at the age of 62 on Thursday, according to reports from local law enforcement.

California emergency personnel was dispatched to Lister’s Marina Del Rey apartment on Thursday afternoon, just before 3 p.m., following reports of an unconscious male. Sources indicate that Lister was not transported to the hospital, as he was pronounced dead on the scene.

“‘Friday’ Star Tommy ‘Tiny’ Lister Dead at 62,” TMZ wrote on Twitter. Per TMZ, Lister died of a heart attack.

Lister was born on June 24, 1958 in Compton, California. He was born blind in his right eye due to a detached and deformed retina.

In addition to his acting career, he is a former American professional wrestler and voice actor. He voice-acted in several movies including Fish Hooks as Mr. Mussels. He also made an appearance in The Dark Knight as a prison inmate, in the Adam Sandler film Little Nicky as Nicky’s older brother Cassius, and in Austin Powers Goldmember. In addition, he voiced Finnick in Zootopia.

Meanwhile, Lister is perhaps best known for his roles as the neighborhood bully Deebo in the film, Friday and its sequel and as President Lindberg in The Fifth Element.

In Friday, Deebo played the neighborhood bully and antagonist to Ice Cube’s character, Craig Jones. He continued on in the role during the film’s sequel, Next Friday. However, he did not appear in the third film of the series, Friday After Next. He would later go on to appear in Ice Cube’s director debut The Players Club.

He had a short wrestling career that was highlighted by wrestling Hulk Hogan in the WWF and WCW. Those stints came after appearing as Zeus in Hogan’s movie No Holds Barred.
