“Twin Peaks” has been a cultural phenomenon since it debuted during the early 1990s. The show created a devoted fandom that followed the show from the time the body of Laura Palmer was found until it ended its memorable run.
Thanks to the show’s success, its cast became famous. And, one of the cast members who rose to fame thanks to the David Lynch show is actor Dana Ashbrook. He played the angst-filled and ambitious Bobby Briggs on the iconic show.
Believe it or not, Dana Ashbrook turned 53 years old today (Monday, May 24, 2021).
The character of Bobby Briggs was known for many things on “Twin Peaks.” One of those things was his relationship with the beautiful Shelly. This character was played by Mädchen Amick. Shelly worked at the Double R Diner alongside Norma. Their jobs there brought them into contact with many of the other characters in the “Twin Peaks” universe.
You can check out a scene of Dana Ashbrook as Bobby Briggs and Mädchen Amick as Shelly below.
However, before he dated Shelly, Dana Ashbrook’s character Bobby Briggs was the boyfriend of one of the most famous characters in “Twin Peaks.” That character, of course, was Laura Palmer. It was her murder that drives much of the drama and the plot of the unique show.
‘Twin Peaks’ Returned to Television Decades After Its Original Run Came to an End
“Twin Peaks” was created by the influential director David Lynch and the creative Mark Frost. According to IMDb.com, it originally aired during 1990 and 1991. The run was brief, yes, but the fandom was – and continues to be – enthusiastic. And, that fandom continued to grow after the show’s initial run came to an end.
It took many years, but “Twin Peaks” finally returned to television screens during 2017. This version of the show aired on Showtime. And, in typical David Lynch fashion, it was weird. But, it was also exciting and interesting. It answered some questions fans had had for years, but it also raised many others.
Many members of the original “Twins Peaks” cast returned for the 2017 revival. This included Dana Ashbrook. Here’s a clip of Ashbrook playing a much older Bobby Briggs from the revival. In this clip, Ashbrook gives an emotional performance to seeing a picture of Laura Palmer. What makes it even more moving is part of the iconic “Twin Peaks” score is playing the background.
Yes, “Twin Peaks” has been a show that has often been considered by some as “weird.” But, do yourself a favor and give it a try.
