It’s never easy to lose a beloved coworker. While Two and a Half Men fans lose one of their favorite parts of the show, Charlie Sheen loses a friend and coworker.

As the rest of the fanbase and community did, Sheen reacted to the news that character actress Conchata Ferrell has died at age 77. His response is somber and understandably so.

“an absolute sweetheart

a consummate pro

a genuine friend

a shocking and painful loss.

Berta,

your housekeeping was a tad suspect,

your “people”keeping was perfect.”

Sheen and Ferrell’s Role in the Show

This is basic knowledge for any Two and a Half Men fans, but the premise of the program is about a brother and son, played by Jon Cryer and Angus T. Jones, who move in with Charlie Harper (Charlie Sheen,) their brother and uncle, after a divorce.

The show was known for its irreverent comedy and interesting character dynamic. Cryer’s character, Alan, is a bit uptight, with his mentality and child impeding on Harper’s solo bachelor lifestyle.

Where Ferrell came into play was as the group’s housekeeper, Berta. While tasked with the duty of cleaning up the trio’s home, Berta also was a close family friend of the cast.

The running bit of Berta was that she often disliked the characters Alan and Jake, Alan’s son. Meanwhile, she was a fan of Charlie who often catered to his requests before considering the others.

The characteristic continued even after Sheen’s departure from the show due to entering rehab. With Ashton Kutcher replacing Sheen’s character Charlie with Walden Schmidt, the show elected to keep the reoccurring gag and characteristic with Kutcher’s new character.

The show ran for a total of 12 seasons, eight of which featured Sheen in a starring role. The only season that Ferrell’s character featured in every episode was Season 11, after Sheen’s departure.
