Vanessa Ray Appreciates the ‘Irony’ Between Eddie Janko on ‘Blue Bloods’ and Her Breakout Role

During her acting career, Vanessa Ray has played very different roles. Her breakout role was that of Charlotte Drake in “Pretty Little Liars.” These days, television fans can follow her work in the hit CBS drama “Blue Bloods.”

As fans of “Blue Bloods” are aware, Ray plays New York City Police Department officer Eddie Janko. Eddie is married to NYPD officer Jamie Reagan. Fans have taken to calling the couple “Jamko” or “Jeddie” since they fell in love. Jamie comes from an NYPD family. In fact, both his grandfather, Henry Reagan (Len Cariou), and his father, Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck), have served as the commissioner of the NYPD.

“Blue Bloods” and “Pretty Little Liars” are shows that are vastly different from one another. And, in general, the fan base of each is very different.

But, needless to say, Ray’s career has made her a very recognizable face to the public. And, like most other celebrities, she is often approached by fans when they see her on the street. Given the difference in the fan bases of each of her hit shows, she’s usually unsure as to what a fan who approaches her is going to say. This uncertainty is something the “Blue Bloods” star enjoys for many reasons.

“I definitely appreciate the irony. I think it’s actually hysterical,” Vanessa Ray said during a September 2014 interview with WNY Papers. The actress actually enjoyed having people come up to her and talk about the shows. And she even made a game of it for herself.

‘Blue Bloods’ Star Vanessa Ray Said ‘I’m Usually Wrong’ When Guessing Which of Her Television Shows Fans Prefer

“I think this is great. I’ll see somebody walking up to me, and I’ll try and guess which show they watch based on their appearance,” Vanessa Ray also said.

Turns out, as of the time of the interview, the “Blue Bloods” star wasn’t all that adept at guessing which show a fan of hers who approached her preferred over the others.

“And I’m usually wrong – that’s the thing,” Vanessa Ray also said. “Usually I’ll see a teenage girl walk up to me (and think), ‘Oh, she definitely watches ‘Pretty Little Liars’; she watches ‘Suits’ (where Ray’s Jenny was a recurring character), or something.’ And then she’s like, ‘Jeddie’ needs to get together, because they call us ‘Jeddie’ or ‘Jamko.’ And I’m like, ‘Oh, my gosh, I totally missed the mark on that one.”

While younger viewers often surprisingly comment on her “Blue Bloods” character, older fans of Ray’s often want to talk to her about her role in “Pretty Little Liars.”

“And you know what? I’ll get a lot of older gentlemen who’ll come up, ‘I love you on the show. But my daughter would kill me if I didn’t take a picture with you, because they love you on ‘Pretty Little Liars,” Vanessa Ray also explained. “I guess that kind of goes both ways.”

“Blue Bloods” is now in its 12th season on CBS. Its latest season debuted on Oct. 1. Episodes of the popular family cop drama
