‘Walker’ Star Jared Padalecki Sets Record Straight on Spin-Off Show

He finished his longtime run as Sam Winchester on the hit CW series Supernatural late last year, and now Jared Padalecki is ready to set the record straight about a potential spin-off The Winchesters.

During a recent interview with The New York Times, the Walker star states that he got a call from Jensen Ackles, who played his brother Dean on Supernatural, about the spin-off. “[He] just kind of explained, ‘Man, it’s not picked up yet. It’s not even written yet.’ He knows and I know how much Supernatural means to both of us. And it wasn’t a secret he was trying to keep, necessarily. It was just something that he didn’t feel really even existed yet.”

According to Deadline, The Winchesters is centered around Dean and Sam’s parents. The project is reportedly in development at the CW and is executive produced by Ackles. He will also be reprising his role as Dean Winchester as the narrator. Ackles wife is also reportedly signed on to play a role in the upcoming series.

‘Walker’ Star Reacts to a Potential ‘Supernatural’ Spin-Off

After hearing about the show, Padalecki, who is now working on Walker, reached out to Ackles on Twitter. “Dude. Happy for you. Wish I heard about this some way other than Twitter. I’m excited to watch, but hummed that Sam Winchester had no involvement whatsoever.”

Padalecki reassured his fans that his reaction was not a joke and it was the first he even heard about the spin-off. The Walker star further acknowledges during his interview that the Twitter comments were out of control.

“It was just on one of those things that, because it was online and people were assuming I was part of it,” Padalecki states. “I really wanted to just say, ‘Hey, I’m not keeping a secret you guys. I just don’t know about this.’ And I should be old enough to know better than to put something out there and expect that people will understand.”

After chatting with Ackles, the Walker star tried to straighten everything out about the situation by tweeting, “@JensenAckles and I had a great talk, as we do often, and things are good. The show is early in the process with miles to go. We’ve travelled a lot of roads together and sometimes those damn roads have bumps. Bumps don’t stop us. Once brothers, always brothers.”

The Walker actor further explained that it’s hard to tweet a “specific” tone and that’s why people were immediately reacting to a potential feud. “If you write online, it’s like, ‘Oh, he doesn’t know! They’re going to kill each other! The world is ending!’ And I’m like, ‘No, no, no.’ I try to avoid social media as much as possible because of that.”
