Walker star Jared Padalecki is expanding past his role as an actor.

Yes, the star of Walker has another role on the show, executive producer, and this role is one he wants to do sooner rather than later.

In an interview with EW, the star revealed his plans to move into that realm, and possibly cut out acting altogether.

And I was like, “I don’t want to direct, I want to produce.” That’s kind of the way my brain works. I would rather put together the Legos than have the finished piece. I read instruction booklets, love the engineering, puzzle aspect of it. I’d rather try and figure out the answer than know the answer. I say this without a hint of irony: I can’t wait to never be on camera again.

What Does This Mean for Jared Padalecki and Walker?

This is interesting for Padalecki to admit, especially this early into filming this new program for the CW. Burnout is real, and perhaps Padalecki is reaching the point Jesse Spencer hit on Chicago Fire. After a number of years in front of the camera, he is ready for a new challenge. However, the timing is not great with the show just beginning. Like Supernatural, Walker and Padalecki have an opportunity to make this show work on the CW for years to come. With this news, one has to wonder if he is long for this role.

The honesty is refreshing, though. Sure, he likes both, but he also makes sure to point out that he does not like direction. It’s not his thing. His passion is storytelling as he tells it. He is more about the creative pieces being put together more so than going in as the expert. That is the difference between the two roles, one already has a vision in mind and the other works with other creative types to figure out how everything fits together.

Padalecki is aware of his strengths and his weaknesses. It’s a good quality to have. You can tell he is a big-picture thinker on-set.

“So much of the first season of a television show, especially the pilot, is just introducing the audience to the characters. You have so much explanation. Now we know who the characters are. We’re beyond that. We hit the ground running, and we’re almost done filming episode 5 and we are already deep into the season arc.”

Padalecki is excited about moving past season one where the story is limited because fans don’t know anyone yet. Now, they are in telling more of an interesting story. Characters are developing and it is an exciting time for Walker fans.
