Today, Betty White the ageless wonder turned 99 years old. To celebrate her birthday, she posted a series of clips from her old television show, Pet Set. In her caption to the post, White announced that the show would re-release the show fifty years later. She also made sure to include a thoughtful note and a taste of her famous humor.

“Would you believe it?!” Betty White says in her post. “It’s my 99th birthday which means I can stay up as late as I want without asking. I am also very pleased to let you know about the re-release of my long-lost series after fifty years! I am just so proud of the “Pet Set”. Hope everyone is well and staying safe. We will get through this.”

Betty White Stars in Pet Set

This “long-lost series” features Betty White alongside a number of other animal-loving stars. Some of the stars to join the show include Carol Burnett, Mary Tyler Moore, Doris Day, Burt Reynolds, Jimmy Stewart, Shirley Jones, and James Brolin. The show originally aired between 1971-1972 but was later canceled when their main sponsor went in a different direction.

The show itself played like a talk show with special guests coming onto the show for each episode. The special guest would bring in their pet and Betty White would discuss the animal. A segment focusing on a specific species or breed followed that. Finally, the show would typically conclude with White and the guest outside with a wild animal. Some of these animals included a 500-pound Bengal tiger, an Asian elephant, and a black bear.

“If I haven’t told you already, I will now. The Pet Set is one of my favorite shows,” said White.  “I’m thrilled it’s going to be seen again after all these years.”

Betty White has starred in countless television shows and movies over the course of her long career. She has been America’s sweetheart since her career began in the late 1930s. Even in her old age, she still captivates an adoring fanbase. While she has not starred in many films recently, the younger generation still knows the television queen.
