Late on Monday, Jeopardy! shared new guest host Robin Roberts‘ touching message to contestants at the end of her first night on the game show.
During last night’s episode, Roberts took over the popular game show for the first time. She’s one of many guest hosts that have taken over the show in recent history. Since Alex Trebek passed away in November 2020, Jeopardy! has used a rotating cast of celebrities as temporary fill-ins. Roberts has a one-week stint on the game show, which runs from July 19 to July 23.
As her first episode wrapped up last night, cameras captured Roberts’ interaction with the three contestants. She thanked the contestants and was clearly still elated following the debut of her Jeopardy! hosting duties.
“I hope you enjoyed yourselves,” Roberts said to the three contestants.
“Oh, you were awesome,” one contestant responded to the host.
“It was super fun,” another contestant added.
“You did great,” returning champion Joshua Saak said to Roberts.
“Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you. You are my newbies. There’s so few times in life you can say you’re doing something for the first time and I’ll remember all three of you. You were gentle with me and I appreciate that,” Roberts replied to the contestants.
“A great start to the week with @robinrobertsgma – and the contestants agree!” Jeopardy! wrote on its Instagram post.
‘Jeopardy!’ Announces Guest Host Robin Roberts’s Charity of Choice
On Saturday night, Jeopardy! announced guest host Robin Roberts’ charity, which will earn a large donation at the end of the week.
The Good Morning America anchor just took the reins from her fellow GMA host George Stephanopoulos on Monday. Stephanopoulos had his own one-week stint, and now he passes the podium to his co-worker Robin Roberts. The pair of anchors follow a long line of interim hosts. Former Jeopardy! champions, broadcasters, actors, and even an NFL quarterback have all taken over the show this season.
When each new guest host takes over, they each get to pick their favorite charity. Jeopardy! will then match the game show’s total contestant winnings while they host the show and donate that amount to the chosen charity. Jeopardy! posted a sneak peek of Roberts hosting on Twitter. Additionally, the teaser announced Roberts’ charity of choice in its caption.
Robin Roberts chose Be The Match as the charity that will receive a huge donation at the end of this week. The organization focuses its efforts on helping with the fight to cure blood cancers like leukemia and sickle cell.
“[Good Morning America‘s] Robin Roberts is guest hosting this week! As part of her appearance, Jeopardy! will donate to her chosen charity, Be The Match,” the game show tweeted.
