Contestants on The Voice are having to battle it out between one another. The Knockout Battle of the Year might have happened tonight.
Seriously, if you weren’t watching, you missed a wild battle between Jonathan Mouton and Wendy Moten. The Team Blake singers absolutely put on a performance that can be watched over and over again. Mouton started with a soulful performance of I Can See Clearly Now. John Legend himself couldn’t help but sing along.
Then, Mouton really brought it with the soul as well. Her rendition of Aretha Franklin’s Ain’t No Way almost brought tears to my eyes. Both Jonathan and Wendy admired each other’s performances. Moten had the crowd and judges losing their minds during her performance. Chills. Watch below.
As Moten belted out the lyrics, both soft, small notes, and big, boisterous ones as well. Her performance was one of the best that has ever graced the show. If you watch that and don’t feel something, you just don’t like music. After deliberations and considerations for both contestants, there was one clear winner.
Despite Jonathan’s performance being surprisingly strong and well done, the judges had a hard time deciding who they liked best. When it came down to it, Blake Shelton chose Wendy. Mouton is up for a steal, but he may be at the end of the road on The Voice.
Taking on an Aretha Franklin song can be risky. It is hard to bring the same level of emotion and passion to the lyrics as the legendary singer did during her career. The entire range was in Wendy Mouton’s back pocket and she displayed it tonight. Highs, lows, and everything in between.
‘The Voice’ Father-Son Duo on Team Grande
Jim and Sasha Allen have been remarkable on The Voice. The father-son duo shocked crowds and coaches on the show when they played in the blind auditions. Both Kelly Clarkson and Ariana Grande turned around to convince the duo to join their teams. Grande won out and was a surprise coach for the pair.
Now, the duo is poised to compete in the knockout rounds. It will be a tough competition, but they have a good shot. At least as good of a shot as anyone else. Jim and Sasha have talked about the experience up to this point with a Connecticut newspaper, The Courant.
“It’s just such a wild ride, it’s been amazing,” the teenager said. “Every part of it has been so much fun, even the nerve-wracking parts.”
Of course, Sasha also had words to say about his coach, Ariana Grande. He says that she is fun and had other kind words for the pop star.
“Aside from even being a coach, [Grande is] so much fun, and she’s truly a really funny and down-to-earth person who just radiates kindness, and we love her.”
