WATCH: Mark Wahlberg Says ‘Kids a Natural’ During Golf Cart ‘Driving Lesson’

Mark Wahlberg is often celebrated for his achievements on the screen. His successful acting career tends to overshadow his job as a dad. But what a job it is. Wahlberg has four kids with his wife, Rhea Durham. And with a few of them already at or reaching driving age, he’s a big fan of the golf cart training method. He posted a video to Instagram of him starting his 12-year old son Brendan out young. Fortunately, the kid is a natural behind the wheel.

It’s a heartwarming video, and the father-son bonding is off the charts. The pair are cruising along, and Brendan appears to be taking the responsibility seriously.

“Best way to learn how to drive is to start with a golf cart. This boy knows how to drive. Yeah- watch the road, not the camera! First driving lesson with dad, he’s good,” Wahlberg says in the video.

Brendan is too focused on the task at hand to say anything. But Mark Wahlberg’s pride is plain to see. The youngest Wahlberg son still has a few years to go before he hits the streets for real, but the early start may pay off down the line.

Mark Wahlberg’s Golf Cart Experience with His Eldest

If you’ve been following along with Outsider, you may know that Mark Wahlberg’s eldest child, Ella Rae, has her 18th birthday right around the corner. It’s exciting stuff for the Wahlberg family. Ella’s the first of the children to become a fully-fledged adult.

But a few years ago, Ella found herself in the very same position as Brendan. And apparently, the ride didn’t go anywhere near as well as the one that made it to Instagram. In an interview with Jimmy Kimmel, Mark Wahlberg described his daughter’s relative lack of focus.

“We were driving in a golf cart, and we’re supposed to be staying on the path because both sides are lava, and then I told her, ‘Slow down around the corner.’ She didn’t. She’s got music playing and everything and all of a sudden, she starts to go up on the lava and she literally bails out of the cart … leaving me,” Wahlberg said.

Ella cut her losses. She removed herself from the situation, leaving dad to get the cart back under control. Brendan seems to have learned from her mistakes, based on the video evidence.

The ‘Joe Bell’ Actor is a Family Man Through and Through

These days, Mark Wahlberg stays busy raising his own family. But growing up, he was one of nine kids in the household. And for all of the trouble he got himself into as an adolescent, he shared a very close relationship with his late mother, Alma.

She passed away in April, and the actor is feeling her absence.

“It was always the first phone call that I made every single day for the last 10 years, was to my mom. And I don’t get to make that phone call anymore,” Wahlberg told Fatherly in July.
