Former NCIS actress Cote De Pablo really struck big when she landed the role. Just a year before, she acted in a commercial for Volkswagon. The actress left the show in season 10, but her character, Ziva David, is still iconic amongst NCIS fans. While she reprised her role for a brief few episodes in seasons 16 and 17, Cote De Pablo has not made a return as a full-time cast member.
But before she even started on the show, Cote was a commercial actress. The dated early 2000s commercial finds a man using his mirror feature on his Volkswagon to gawk at the actress. It’s a short clip, only about 30 seconds long.
Shortly after that small role where you can barely see her face, Cote landed a leading role on a series that would soon become one of the most popular scripted dramas in the world. Not only would she act on NCIS, but she also wound up working with the writer’s room on her character’s return.
Cote De Pablo Helped Plan Shocking ‘NCIS’ Twist
Cote De Pablo’s character Ziva David was presumed dead for years before making a shocking return to the hit series. She made sure to put a lot of care into her return, so much so that she actually worked with the writers to make Ziva’s return happen.
Turns out, she had a close friend in the writer’s room, and the two women worked together to craft the ultimate twist.
“The greatest thing happened,” De Pablo said in an interview with BUILD Series. “One of the writers was my friend but also a terrific writer for ‘NCIS.’ A woman who had always really loved and respected this character. She called me up and said, ‘Where do you think Ziva’s been?’
There’s no doubt that fans miss Cote De Pablo’s work as Ziva, so she put a lot of care into thinking about things like how Ziva’s family is, how she feels about DiNozzo, and why exactly she stayed away for so long.
Fans were blown away by Ziva’s return, and it’s clear they want more. In fact, fans are already speculating that Cote De Pablo will return for season 19. Season 18’s finale found Mark Harmon’s character, Jethro Gibbs, barely escaping the clutches of death. Many think Gibbs will either fake his own death or go on the run.
Either way, if Ziva is true to what she told Gibbs on season 17, she’ll absolutely want to investigate Gibb’s disappearance. However, that’s all fan speculation. Regardless of whether or not she’ll return, Gibbs will only appear in a handful of episodes as Mark Harmon takes a step back from the show.
NCIS season 19 will air every Monday at 9 pm starting on September 20th. For now, fans are simply left to theorize.
