In her relatively short acting career, Amy Johnston played opposite some of the biggest names in the business. She passed away on March 17th at her West Fork, Arkansas home after a long battle with cancer. She was 66. TV and film fans know her for her roles in Welcome Back, Kotter, and The Buddy Holly Story.

In her role on Welcome Back, Kotter, she played Vinnie Barbarino’s love interest for two episodes. Later, she portrayed Buddy Holly‘s fictional girlfriend Cindy Lou in The Buddy Holly Story. Those roles saw her playing opposite John Travolta and Gary Busey, respectively. However, those were not Amy Johnston’s only roles. She also landed a recurring role in the Animal House spinoff series Sisters and Brothers, That show lasted only twelve episodes, according to IMDb. Her character, Mary Lee was in each of them.

Amy Johnston also appeared in other great classic television shows. For instance, she was in Cagney and Lacey, Charlie’s Angels, and Highway to Heaven.

Johnston also appeared in three other films. Two of those films, But Mother! and In the Best Interest of the Children were made for television. The latter of which was her final acting role. It aired in 1992. Her first role was in the film Rooster: Spurs of Death! in 1977.

After her acting career ended, Amy Johnston went on to teach drama at a college near her West Fork home, according to Hollywood Reporter. She is survived by her brother, two sisters, and her husband Steven.
