On last Thursday’s episode of Wheel of Fortune, Pat Sajak was talking to a contestant when he accidentally gave a little more than a hint away. He solved the puzzle.
Although uncommon, Pat Sajak is human and does have an occasional slip-up. However, after 37 years with the show, I think we can look past it this time.
Pat Sajak Spills the Beans
The clue was a “Phrase.” With two words and only six letters on the board, Jeffrey, the Wheel of Fortune contestant, didn’t have much to work with.
Jeffrey was in the popular game show’s bonus round. With all eyes on him and time quickly ticking away, he panicked and drew a blank. It’s not like he has very much help from the board, though. However, the contestant unknowingly did receive help from Sajak himself.
“_ _ _ T E _ RAN _ L _.”
“Yikes,” states Sajak. “Well, I’d rather be standing here than there, quite frankly.”
Any guesses? Yeah, Us either. Don’t worry, Jeffery also was unaware that Pat Sajak just threw him a lifeline.
What was the answer is, conveniently enough, “quite frankly.”
Although the Wheel of Fortune did not pick up the hint, co-host Vanna White did.
“Did you hear what you said?” asks a startled Vanna White.
“I did, right after I said it,” Sajak laughs. “I wonder how many people at home caught it. There weren’t many letters up there, and I said, ‘I’d rather be here than up there, quite frankly’ — which was the puzzle.”
The 74-year-old Wheel of Fortune host explains how contestants aren’t focused on him. Pat Sajak also touches on word vomit and how he speaks before thinking on occasion.
“But it goes to show you that people are concentrating, and they’re not paying any attention to me. And he didn’t get it. But no reason he should based on that, but it’s funny what your mind will– that your brain– what your mouth will say that your brain says that you shouldn’t do that. Anyway, we will quite frankly see you next time.”
Pat Sajak and Vanna White team up every weeknight at 7:30 p.m. on ABC to host Wheel of Fortune. Let’s see if Sajak lets any more secrets free.
