Pat Sajak and his Wheel of Fortune co-host Vanna White just celebrated their 7000th episode on the hit game show. At the same time, Sajak recently broke the record for the longest-running television show host in American TV history. He has been hosting the show for over thirty-five years now. So, some people are wondering when he will hang it up. Is there an end in sight for Sajak?
It’s safe to say that many people would have packed it in already. Other game shows have either ended completely or switched hosts. Wheel of Fortune, on the other hand, is still going strong. However, Pat Sajak recently said that he can see the end of his record-breaking hosting career on the horizon. Don’t worry though. It won’t be too soon.
Wheel of Fortune Hosts Discuss Retirement
Pat Sajak and Vanna White are the faces of Wheel of Fortune. It’s hard to think of one without the other, at this point. In fact, it’s hard to think of Wheel without them. Since they’ve recently hit such a huge milestone on the show, they have been talking to the press about their time on the show.
USA Today reported that Pat Sajak said that he wanted to retire within the next ten years. He said that he wanted to make his exit before anyone asked him to leave. At the same time, he wants to leave the show while it’s still popular. The show has weathered countless external changes over the years. When the show started, there were only three networks. Now, streaming services and online content take up a huge slice of the viewership pie. However, Wheel of Fortune still pulls millions of viewers. So, it’s safe to say that it will remain popular for quite some time. You almost have to wonder if it is the team of Sajak and White that makes the show as popular as it is.
The Wheel of Fortune hosts are definitely a package deal. In a recent interview, Pat Sajak and Vanna White talked about their time together on the show.
The interviewer asked, “If one of you decides to retire, are you a package deal?” The hosts were in agreement. Vanna said that she couldn’t imagine doing the show without Sajak. Pat said, “We’ve talked about it and we’ll probably walk off into the sunset at the same time.”
“Not anytime soon,” added White. Sajak agreed, saying that it definitely would not be in this calendar year. So, at the very least, we know that Sajak and White will keep Wheel of Fortune spinning for another nine months.
