Not everyone is well versed in the plays of Tennessee Williams. No shame in that whatsoever. Unfortunately for Kevin, though, his lack of knowledge in this area led to a majorly embarrassing moment on a 2017 episode of “Wheel of Fortune.”
When the audience lets out a sigh after you call out a letter, you know you’re going to live forever on the internet. One of Kevin’s fellow contestants even tried to stifle a laugh.
Poor Kevin had every single letter but one in a “title” category puzzle. The board spelled out “A Streetcar Na_ed Desire.” After giving it some thought, Kevin came to the correct conclusion that only two letters could work here. His answer? “K,” of course. A streetcar is totally full of naked desire, right?
Perhaps that could describe some very specific streetcar out there somewhere. But that’s not the title of the 1947 Broadway classic or the 1951 movie adaptation of said play. “A Streetcar Named Desire” is what Sajak was looking for, and contestant Lisa wasted no time in solving the puzzle.
You can watch the hilarity below.
‘Wheel of Fortune’ Contestant Kevin Took Blunder Like a Champ
While he refused to be interviewed (can’t blame him), Kevin did issue a statement through “Wheel of Fortune” itself.
“To be on Wheel of Fortune has always been a dream of mine, though the reality right now may seem like the opposite,” said Kevin Haas in 2017. “Needless to say, I have learned a great deal from this experience. It has taught me how to embrace embarrassment and failure with a smile.”
Sometimes we have to fall so we can learn to pick ourselves back up. And it certainly looks like Kevin took a great lesson away from his blunder on network television. Most importantly, though, he learned the title of a 70-year old play.
“Yes, it has taught me the correct title of that famous 1947 Broadway play. I am happy I brought so many smiles to you all, and so I will smile with you and look back onto this moment and join you in the laughs,” Kevin continued. “That my friends, is the naked truth.”
