During Monday night’s episode of Wheel of Fortune, a contestant left longtime host Pat Sajak stunned after she solved a tough final puzzle to win a huge amount of money.
As contestant Ruth went into the final round, she had already earned $22,688 while spinning the wheel. However, she was facing her toughest challenge yet with the last puzzle of the night.
Ruth faced the ‘EVENT’ category as she took center stage in the Bonus Round. As always, the game show gave Ruth the letters ‘R, S, T, L, N, E’ to start out with. That provided only five out of the 19 letters needed to complete the three-word puzzle.
She needed to pick three consonants and a vowel to add to the board. Ruth chose the letters ‘C, M, D, and O.’ As Vanna White stepped up to turn over Ruth’s letters, only two squares were flipped over. Ruth now only had seven of the 19 letters available, so she had her work cut out for her.
The Wheel of Fortune host said aloud, “This looks tough to me.” Yet as the 10-second timer began, Ruth didn’t hesitate when she said, “MAKING A BREAKTHROUGH.” Sajak couldn’t believe it. Ruth nailed it right away.
“It’s a hard puzzle. Talk it out. Maybe you can get it. Blah blah blah blah,” Sajak hilariously said mocking himself for doubting Ruth’s chances.
Ruth won the Bonus Round and earned herself an additional $39,000, which brought her total on the game show to $61,688. She also got Pat Sajak to eat some more crow since she slayed the final puzzle.
“Make me look like a liar,” Sajak joked with Ruth. “As I said, ‘It’s an easy one. She’ll get it with no problem.’ Congratulations, Ruth! Nice job.”
‘Celebrity Wheel of Fortune’ Contestant Melissa Joan Hart Wins $1 Million for Charity
Over the weekend, actress Melissa Joan Hart competed in the celebrity edition of Wheel of Fortune, and won a massive amount of money for charity. In the process, the star became the first-ever celebrity to win $1 million on the game show.
Many will remember Melissa as the lead role in Clarissa Explains It All and Sabrina, the Teenage Witch. She starred in the TV shows in the 1990s and 2000s, but she came on the game show for an amazing cause.
Each celebrity contestant had the opportunity to win huge donations for charity during their appearances. And a huge charity donation is exactly what Melissa walked away with after she competed. In fact, the Sabrina, the Teenage Witch actress even joked that witchcraft was involved with her big win.
“I would like to say witchcraft was involved,” Hart said with a laugh after her victory. “But to be honest, I prayed a lot more than any kind of sorcery. I literally prayed every round, especially that winning round. I’d close my eyes and say, ‘God, give me focus and calm and let me just read these letters.”
