‘Wheel of Fortune’: Fans Offer Support After Pat Sajak Reveals the Death of His Dog

Wheel of Fortune host Pat Sajak said “it is a very sad time for the Sajak family” at the moment after the death of their beloved dog Maggie.

Sajak ended Monday’s Wheel of Fortune episode by breaking the news to the nation.

“You and I have a lot in common,” he told co-host Vanna White.” We both have two children. We both have the same unusual blood type. But the weirdest of all is, we independently, without either one knowing it named our pets the same name. Your cat is named Stella, and we had a dog named Stella for 12 years. And I used the past tense because we recently had to say goodbye to Stella it was a very sad time for the Sajak family. … We’re gonna miss her she was a good friend.”

He concluded Monday’s show with several photos of Stella during happier times, such as he and Stella playing in the snow.

Wheel of Fortune fans were upset over his loss and many on Twitter and sent Sajak their condolences.

Others shared their own stories of losing a beloved pet.

“Um woah my dog just passed away Friday & tonight Pat’s talking about his recently deceased dog too? (Recently as of whatever this episode was taped.) Freaky!,” one woman tweeted.

‘Wheel of Fortune’ Ended on Happy Note Last Week

At the end of a Wheel of Fortune episode last week, Sajak said he needed to do a little “parental bragging” that night. That’s because his son Patrick had just finished medical school.

“So, you know my son, Patrick — you’ve known him all his life,” Sajak told White. “Well, he’s made it through medical school, and he is now officially Dr. Sajak, and we are thrilled about that.”

But, of course, Sajak had to get a joke in along with the good news. He said he tried to get his son to pick a specialty that would help the Wheel of Fortune host but with no luck.

“The only troubling part is he insists that I call him Dr. Sajak,” he joked. “No, Lesly and I couldn’t be prouder, and I tried to get him into geriatrics, but he refused. … Anyway, congratulations son.”

Maggie Sajak tweeted “So proud of my big brother” once her dad made the announcement.

Patrick Sajak rarely appears in public with his dad and avoids the spotlight. Maggie, who was at one point considering a life as a country singer, but is now in law school, seems to enjoy the attention.
