‘Wheel of Fortune’: One Player Donated Massive Winnings to Charity

A contestant on a recent episode of “Wheel of Fortune” decided to do more with his winnings than just enjoy them himself. He decided to donate what he won on the popular game show to charity.

His donation was not just a few thousand dollars, either. The contestant – a man named Scott Kolbrenner of Encino, California – won $145,000. According to TVLine.com, he split that amount down the middle in order to support two charities. Each received $72,500 thanks to his very successful appearance on “Wheel of Fortune.”

Scott Kolbrenner defeated two other contestants on his episode of the show. He had $45,000 going into the show’s final round. It was during that round that he really struck it big. The prize that came from him successfully solving the final puzzle awarded him another $100,000. That’s pretty great for less than a day’s work!

The solution to the final puzzle was “Flowing White Gown.” He guessed it with “_LO__NG _H_TE GO_N” showing on the board.

After it was revealed that he won $100,000 Kolbrenner lifted his hands over his head in celebration.

“Nice going, Scott,” host Pat Sajak said. “Congratulations!”

‘Wheel of Fortune’ Contestant Chose to Give His Winnings to Two Charities Close to his Heart

One of the charities was Uplift Family Services at Hollygrove. The other was Los Angeles Regional Food Bank. The “Wheel of Fortune” contestant said he felt moved to give his winnings to charities because “the urgent need” in his neighborhood had to be addressed.

Kolbrenner is very familiar with Uplift Family Services at Hollygrove. He has worked with the organization for 20 years. It provides behavioral health treatment to people in California.

In addition to his work with Uplift Family Services, Kolbrenner has volunteered with his other charity of choice for years. He also has a seat on the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank’s board of directors. This organization offers assistance to people in the Los Angeles community that battled food insecurity.

“While I hoped I would do OK on the show, I never thought that anything like this could happen,” Scott Kolbrenner said. “I got lucky that day and knew right away that I wanted to share my good fortune. So, I decided to contribute all of my winnings to Uplift Family Services and Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, whose services support thousands of families. The fun and memories from the day will stay with me forever, but the urgent need in our community cannot wait.”

Kolbrenner also said he has been a viewer of “Wheel of Fortune” during “his whole life.” He watches the show with his wife and children. To get on the show, he submitted a video to the show’s website WheelOfFortune.com. He then took part in a virtual audition.
