“Wheel of Fortune” host Pat Sajak is putting a good word in for mercy and forgiveness on social media.
Pat Sajak Goes Off on People Who ‘Express Glee’ at Others’ Misfortune
“How nice for those who have lived such exemplary lives that they can express glee when others have their lives ruined by a mistake, real or perceived,” Sajak tweeted last week.
It was unclear if Sajak was responding to a specific event or was just making a general observation about cancel culture.
That tweet followed the thought, “Criticizing others is so much easier than examining our own lives… and so much less productive.”
Sajak has taken to Twitter to share his thoughts on a number of subjects, ranging from good manners to cirrus clouds.
Sajak has also taken a lot of flak on social media for perceived missteps while hosting “Wheel of Fortune.” He has not responded to critics directly. But his tweet about criticizing others seems like an indirect way of clapping back at the people hounding him.
‘Wheel of Fortune’ Host Underwent Emergency Surgery
In 2019, Sajak underwent emergency surgery for a blocked intestine. Vanna White filled in for him while he was out. She also took over when Sajak got laryngitis in 1996, per USA Today.
The “Wheel of Fortune” host had been out walking with his daughter when he experienced “excruciating” pain in his stomach, TMZ reported. He hurried to the hospital, and within 3 hours, he was undergoing emergency surgery.
At one point, Sajak said, his life flashed before his eyes and he thought he was dying. But it turned out that was just a side effect of the pain meds he was on at the time.
Sajak recovered fully from the surgery and promptly returned to his hosting duties on the show. But he told USA Today he plans to retire within the decade, though he doesn’t know exactly when that will be.
“I’d like to leave while the show’s still popular, and I’d like to leave before people ask me to leave,” he said. “And I’d like to leave before people tune in and see me and go, ‘Ooh, what the hell happened to him?’”
