‘Wheel of Fortune’: Pat Sajak Joked About Insane Job He’d Have if He Didn’t Do Show, Talked Real Options

It’s very difficult to imagine anyone else as the host of “Wheel of Fortune” other than Pat Sajak.

And, for Sajak it’s very difficult for him to imagine a job doing anything else. However, had his career ever led him away from the famous game show, Sajak had a backup plan in mind.

Well, it wasn’t an actual backup plan. It was more of a joke, but it’s still interesting to hear about. So, here’s what happened.

During an interview with Steve Coutts several years ago, Sajak talked about his career options.

“If you weren’t doing ‘Wheel of Fortune,’ would you like to host another game show? Or do you think you’d do something else?” Coutts asked Sajak.

And, in typical humorous Pat Sajak style, he responded to that question with a joke. But, even for a jokester like this “Wheel of Fortune” host, his response was pretty insane. Here’s what he had to say.

“I’d probably get involved in marionette repair,” Sajak jokingly said – even though he kept a straight face. What makes it even funnier is that the man interviewing him is taking him seriously. “That’s something that’s of great interest to me. Uh, it’s a small market, uh, but I think I’d do it well. The strings get tangled up. …”

Sajak ends the joke there. Maybe he realized his interviewer was taking him way too seriously. Maybe he ran out of things to say. Who knows?

‘Wheel of Fortune’ Host Says Broadcasting Would Be the Career for Him If He Wasn’t Hosting the Game Show

After joking around about career options, “Wheel of Fortune” host Pat Sajak got serious about what path his career could have taken had the popular game show had not come calling.

“I don’t know. I would be in broadcasting in some … be doing a radio show in Cleveland. And, I would probably be pretty happy with it,” Sajak said. “It’s sort of the only business I was ever interested in.”

Luckily for him, Sajak said, being a game show host or working in broadcasting were just what he was made for.

“I mean, if I really had to do something that took skill or ability I would probably die from lack of income,” he said – jokingly, of course. “So, I need to hold on to this for a while.”
