‘Wheel of Fortune’ Pat Sajak Jokingly Unveils His Line of ‘Meat-Based Vegetables’

In response to all of the hype about vegetarians, vegans, and plant-based meats, Wheel of Fortune host Pat Sajak is turning the tables. He wants to bring the meat to the vegetables.

If you’re a vegetarian or a vegan, you may want to look away from this one. Wheel of Fortune host Pat Sajak is seeking a patent for his latest groundbreaking idea — meat-based veggies. Now, in the end, he is probably just kidding around. But Sajak is well-known for his wisecracks and he provided his fans and followers on social media with another laugh on Thursday afternoon.

“Just applied for a patent on my line of meat-based vegetables,” Sajak began his post. “Great for keeping peace with vegan friends. The Beefagus is the most promising: USDA Prime Beef cleverly disguised as asparagus spears.”

Now the Beefagus may be the most promising, according to the longtime TV host himself. But he has a couple of other genius ideas hiding up his sleeve as well.

“The Caulifilet also shows a lot of promise, as do the Porktatoes and Turkmatoes.”

Wheel of Fortune fans definitely got a kick out of this one from Pat Sajak. His latest post garnered a ton of responses. That began with a few fans who had their own ideas about meat-based vegetables.

“Please add Baconion to that list, Pat,” one person said. “Can’t wait to try the Beefagus!”

Similarly, another fan responded by saying, “I won’t touch asparagus with a ten-foot pole. But I could go for some Beefagus.”

And naturally, one fan just had to point out that a tomato is, in fact, considered to be a fruit.

“The Tuckmatoes could possibly be meat-based fruits, right???”

‘Wheel of Fortune’ Host Not the First With Meat-Based Veggies Idea

That’s right, as groundbreaking as Sajak’s tweet sounded on Thursday, he was actually beat to the idea a couple of years ago by the popular chain restaurant, Arby’s. While other restaurants started to explore plant-based meat alternatives, Arby’s was looking in the other direction. Jim Taylor, chief marketing officer for Arby’s, explained as much in an online statement back in 2017.

“Plant-based meats are the latest incarnation of making vegetables look like what Americans really want, which is great, tasty meat,” he said. “Universally, people know we’re supposed to eat vegetables every day,” Taylor continued. “But 90 percent of Americans don’t eat the recommended amount. So we said if others can make meat out of vegetables, why can’t we make vegetables out of meat?”

After kicking around some different ideas, the company decided on creating a carrot made completely out of meat. They called it the “Marrot.” It is made out of a whole turkey breast, cut into the shape of a carrot, and rolled into a special carrot marinade. It is then oven roasted for an hour before being topped off with a fresh sprig of parsley.

As interesting as it may look, the restaurant was only exploring the idea. They were never actually made available to guests.
