In a 2011 interview courtesy of Foundation Interviews, Wheel of Fortune host Pat Sajak hilariously doubled as a marriage advice counselor.

Incredibly, Pat Sajak and Vanna White have been working together for more than 40 years. That in itself is longer than most marriages tend to make it. But with that much time having been spent together, many fans have wondered if the two stars ever dated outside of the show.

“I don’t know how we would have done as a couple,” Sajak says in the 2011 sit-down. “We get along real well now and there is no point in pushing that.”

It seems like the two Wheel of Fortune hosts are only best friends and nothing more. But they have most certainly grown close during their time working together. Sajak says that if the two were to ever get on each other’s nerves, which White insists never happens, that they can always clear the air with a two-week break between work sessions.

“And one of the reasons we get along well, we get along well because she is a very nice person. And I, of course, am a saint,” Sajak jokes. “We are together a lot when we are together, and even if you do get on each other’s nerves — which I don’t know that we do — we go our separate ways and don’t see each other for two weeks.”

Wheel of Fortune Host Gives His Key to a Successful Marriage

Pat Sajak and Vanna White have been working together on Wheel of Fortune for what seems like a lifetime at this point. And as a result, the two co-hosts and friends have a close friendship. However, their friendship takes work just like any other life-long relationship. During the 2011 interview, Sajak said that he thought all marriages in the United States would be successful if they could take a two-week break here and there to help clear the air.

“Every marriage in America would be successful if it were lived that way,” Sajak admits. “You could take this time off. Then, by the time you sort of see each other again, you are catching up on old times and all is right in the world.”

Sajak says that with that kind of schedule, things always stay fresh in the relationship. That is part of why he and Vanna White have been able to work so incredibly well together.

“I think our schedule would make it really tough to get burned out on each other,” Sajak says.
