Tom Hanks channels the frustrations of a game show host. In 2013, the actor hilariously impersonated “Wheel of Fortune” host Pat Sajak in a “Saturday Night Live” sketch.

Over his several decades on the air, Sajak has dealt with some no-brainers and epic fails on “Wheel of Fortune.”

But these “Saturday Night Live” sketch contestants were made from a different cloth. Played by Amy Poehler, Fred Armisen, and Kristin Wiig, they struggled to answer a puzzle that needed only one letter to solve. The correct answer on the board was “By the Skin of My Teeth.”

But their answers included everything from “By the Chin of my Teeth” to “By the Skin of My Feet” to awkwardly passing.

Hanks was on form as an increasingly frustrated Pat Sajak. He cycled through the five stages of grief until finally arriving on acceptance. Hanks realized that his contestants just weren’t that bright. Maybe, that’s a realization the real Pat Sajak has had before. Meanwhile, Tina Fey appeared as Vanna White, here for her looks than her ability to speak in the sketch.

The sketch leads to Hank as Sajak blowing up at the end. He retired from “Wheel of Fortune” by declaring his love for Fey’s White and storming out of the building in disgust. The inability of the three contestants to solve such a simple puzzle made Hanks’ Sajak reassess his career choices. In real life, Sajak doesn’t have any plans to retire from “Wheel of Fortune” soon.

Tom Hanks Comments on ‘Jeopardy!’ Snub

Perhaps, Tom Hanks should stay far away from game shows. While he played a distressed Pat Sajak on “Saturday Night Live,” he had some real outrage regarding a “Jeopardy!” diss. Back in 2019, three contestants failed to recognize a clip of Hanks while competing on the show.

While appearing on “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” Kimmel showed Hanks a clip from a recent episode of “Jeopardy!.”

During the clip, one contestant chose the Biopics category for $200. The clue for the category was: “In ‘A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood,’ beloved children’s TV show host Mister Rogers is played by this beloved actor.”

But no one guessed Tom Hanks. In fact, none of the contestants guessed anyone at all.

In response, the late Alex Trebek answered, “Film opens Friday, that’s Tom Hanks.”

The clip frustrated Hanks, who ranted that the contestants didn’t even try to answer the question.

“You are kidding me!” Hanks exclaimed. “You are kidding me! They didn’t even have any wrong [answers]. You know? Bing! ‘Woody Harrelson?’ ‘No.’”
