Why ‘NCIS’ Star Sean Murray is Passionate About Cleaning Up Ocean Pollution

NCIS star Sean Murray is incredibly passionate about cleaning up the Ocean. While it’s an issue lots of people care about, Murray has an interesting backstory behind that passion. The actor plays Timothy McGee on NCIS and has done so over the past 19 seasons. While others have come and gone, he’s remained true to the series.

But in his personal life outside of the series, he’s invested a lot of time into Ocean cleanup projects.

“I grew up on beaches. I’m a first generation American. My mother was born in Australia and I spent a lot of time in Australia when I was younger,” the actor told Forbes in 2017. “Los Angeles is supposed to have wonderful beaches but they are mess with the stuff they are pulling out of the water. It’s important to bring awareness to taking care of our oceans, locally and globally.”

But Murray does more than publicly advocate for clean oceans, he’s also a member of the board for a very important organization dedicated to cleanups.

Murray Likes to Give Back, Make Music

“I’m on the board of Heal the Bay which is devoted to making them better for everyone. They have all kinds of clean-up events and work to mobilize communities to protect our coastline,” he said. When he’s not giving back, it looks like the actor is making his own music. He bought his own sound board and taught himself how to play the guitar.

Murray is one of the many NCIS cast members whose opted to give back in his free time.

For instance, his co-star Brian Dietzen recently made a documentary about a Wounded Warrior’s softball team coaching a team of young amputees. The heartwarming story follows the team as they work with the team of veterans, uniting over their shared pain and the love of the sport.

Sean Murray’s McGee in a Major Adjustment Period on ‘NCIS’

McGee and the rest of the NCIS team are in a major adjustment this season. Mark Harmon has left the show. As the cast gets used to the show without Harmon (though he remains as an executive producer), their characters have to get used to work without Gibbs.

McGee was a huge fan favorite to take the leadership role Gibbs left behind, but he didn’t want it. Instead, it’s gone to Alden Parker. He’s a new character, but a lot of fans really love the fact that Gary Cole, who plays Parker, is on the show working with Sean Murray and the rest of the cast.

The newest episode of NCIS premieres tonight on CBS after a one week hiatus. You can catch the new episode at 9/8 central.
