Why Some ‘Blue Bloods’ Fans Have Mixed Feelings About Bridget Moynahan’s Erin Reagan

Bridget Moynahan’s Erin Reagan has elicited strong reactions from Blue Bloods fans for years now, but why? There has never been a consistent attitude towards Erin on the show, like there is for Frank or Danny, for example. If you asked ten fans of the program, you might get ten different answers to this question.

Fans of the show on the Blue Bloods Reddit message board brought up the topic. One user, NavyPenguin9005 said, “Honestly I have no idea.”

Another user, carborough_bluffer wrote, “I hate to be the one to pull out the gender card but – misogyny. She’s strong [and] firm and that can be intimidating to some people.”

Could it be a bit of that? That some fans have mixed feelings about Erin because of her gender and because of her role as Assistant District Attorney? We can’t know for sure.

Perhaps a lot of it is that Erin sits on the opposite side of the fence in the family? If Erin was a police officer like the rest of her family, is it fair to suspect the reaction and attitude toward her would change? If she wasn’t constantly at odds with her family because of her complicated position, wouldn’t things be better? This is the reality she must face with her family every single day, and it cannot improve if she wants to do her job well and do her job right. Unfortunately, this comes with the territory with her position of power and how it works with a police family.

Blue Bloods Appreciation

Despite mixed reactions from fans, Moynahan maintains a positive perspective about her place on the show. She told Glamour, “It all has to do with the writing and new, more complicated story lines. We also have a team of actors who really appreciate the job and each other. We know how lucky we are to be on this show—and such a long-running show at that. It doesn’t come around that often, so when you’re working with people who express gratitude, it just fuels the show. Everybody wants to show up and do their best work.”

How cool is this? Moynahan maintains a fantastic attitude towards her role and time on the show. Sure, some fans may not like her for a variety of reasons, but she is happy to be there. She is happy to work with such a stacked cast and to work on a show for as long as she has on CBS. Her perspective is a great one, of gratitude and understanding that these roles don’t come around very often and she is just happy to be there.

Blue Bloods is one of CBS’s most popular dramas and is currently underway in its 12th season.
