Britton Shackelford from Wicked Tuna: Outer Banks is a pretty serious fisherman. And according to a recent Q&A with the captain, there was never a time in his life when he wasn’t.
Captain Shackelford was bit by the fishing bug when he was only a kid. As far back as he can remember, he “had the drive to fish.” One of his favorite aspects of fishing is its competitive nature. And he enjoyed that competition ” even at a young age.”
When Shackelford graduated high school, he headed off to college in search of a long-term career—but all he could think about was ditching classes and reelin’ ’em in.
The reality star stuck to his studies, though. And he graduated with a bachelor’s degree. But Shackelford realized that he could just make a career out of his passion.
Shortly after Captain Shackelford left the University of Virginia, he opened his own charter company called Doghouse Sportfishing, which runs out of Wanchese, North Carolina. And as most of you know, he joined Wicked Tuna: Outer Banks during its premiere season.
“I always tell people, I’m about the most ignorant fisherman there is because I got a four-year college education and I came right back to fishing,” he told his Facebook Fans. “But it’s something that I’ve loved to do my entire life.”
‘Wicked Tuna: Outer Banks’ Captain Britton Shackelford Talks Best Places to Eat Fresh Tuna
If you’re planning on heading to North Carolina’s Outer Banks region, be sure to try some bluefin tuna. Captain Britton Shackelford knows just the place to go.
Captain Shackelford has been fishing the waters of the Outer Banks since he was a kid. And after he graduated college, the Wicked Tuna star headed back to North Carolina to make a career out of his hobby.
The Captain owns Doghouse Sportfishing, a Wanchese charter fishing company. And before he started that, he was the operations manager of a seafood company. He also, of course, catches tuna on Wicked Tuna: Outer Banks. So if anyone knows where to find a great bluefin dinner in the Outer Banks, it’s him. And in a recent Q&A session, he told us where to go.
First off, any restaurant that serves fresh tuna along the North Carolina coastline is going to be great because nothing beats fresh-caught fish.
“I’m going to say the best place to get tuna if you’re going to dine out is going to be any place that serves fresh tuna. And it’s hard to beat something that comes in here and is distributed locally. So just ask, wherever it is that you’re eating. All of our restaurants are really good,” said Captain Shackelford.
But there is one place in particular that won Shackelford’s heart.
“It’s hard to beat right here at the head of the creek, O’Neal’s Seafood,” Shackelford continued in the video.
