‘Wicked Tuna: Outer Banks’: The Changing of Boats Leaves Fans Confused, Missing Their ‘Favorite’ Fishing Vessels

Fans are still mourning the recasting of their favorite vessels on Wicked Tuna: Outer Banks. From seasons one through five, five boats conquered the Graveyard of the Atlantic in the quest for bluefin before disappearing: Fishin’ Frenzy, Reels of Fortune, Little Shell, Foolish Pleasures and Doghouse. Once season six began, four new vessels took to the waters off the coast of North Carolina. Without any explanation regarding the old vessels’ whereabouts, the show continued as if nothing was out of the ordinary. Fans had no choice but to accept the change and try to offer the new crews the same favoritism they gave the last ones. However, for some, it just left too big of a gaff hole in their hearts.

On Reddit, a new Wicked Tuna: Outer Banks fan asked show veterans if there was an explanation for the change. To them, it seemed that just the three original southern boats had replacements – no one else. The fan expressed their frustrations on the show’s Subreddit.

“So I started watching Wicked Tuna Outerbanks on Disney + and immediately became obsessed! I just started season 6 and am really confused? Does anyone know why they got rid of all the OG southern boats? I miss Frenzy, Reels of Fortune, Doghouse!!” the Wicked Tuna: Outer Banks fan wrote.

Others shared their theories on the show’s abrupt change as well as which vessels they still missed.

“They change out boats a lot, usually without explanation. Fishing Frenzy is back in Season 7,” one user wrote.

“I heard some of the boats wanted more money or at least the same amount that the northern guys were getting,” another shared.

Meanwhile, a third Reddit user commented that they only truly missed seeing The Dog House crew in the hunt for bluefin tuna.

Two Vessels Returned on Season Seven of ‘Wicked Tuna: Outer Banks’

As one of the Reddit users on the thread shared, two vessels did, in fact, reappear on season seven of Wicked Tuna: Outer Banks. Alongside their new competitors, Little Shell and Fishin’ Frenzy came back to the show. Though it’s still unclear why the two crews needed a season break, fans happily accepted Captains Nick Gowitzka and Greg Mayer back into the bluefin bunch.

Still, fans continued to regularly see changes to the Wicked Tuna: Outer Banks cast throughout the years. Along with the reintroduction of Mayer and Gowitzka’s crews, season seven was also the last tuna competition for vessels like Tyler McLaughlin’s Pinwheel and fan-favorite captain T.J. Ott’s Hot Tuna.

Despite the changes in cast members, Wicked Tuna: Outer Banks never leaves viewers high and dry when it comes to excitement. No matter who dominates the waters off the coast of North Carolina, it seems that as long as the bluefins are swimming, the show will continue.
