Music industry icon Willie Nelson is still rocking at 87-years-old with no signs of slowing down any time soon.
South by Southwest Conference and Festivals announced earlier this week that Nelson will serve as their keynote speaker. This year’s event and conference well go virtual due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Starting in 1987, The event is typically in Austin, Texas, each year at the beginning of the spring season.
Along with Nelson, the festivals plans to hold more than 230 conference sessions for its 2021 attendees. Numerous guest speakers are in place for the event and will share their expertise on a variety of subjects.
This year’s South By Southwest online conference will run March 16-20 with a number of music festival showcases, film festival screenings and a lot more, festival officials say.
Willie Nelson is Easy Choice for Keynote Speaker
South By Southwest leadership says the “On the Road Again” singer is an easy choice for this year’s keynote speaker.
“No individual has had the cultural impact on, or been more synonymous with the creative vibrancy of Austin than Willie Nelson, and we are incredibly honored to have him as a SXSW Online 2021 Keynote,” says Hugh Forrest, Chief Programming Officer. “In addition to dozens of incredible featured speakers, today’s announcement also includes more than 200 sessions curated from our global community via PanelPicker, and is a key part of the premium content you can expect from SXSW Online 2021.”

Nelson is one of the most recognizable names in all of music with a career spanning several decades. He went into the Country Music Hall-of-Fame in 1993. He was also inducted into the National Agricultural Hall-of-Fame in 2011 for his assistance with Farm Aid.
‘Wanted! The Outlaws’ Anniversary
In another news regarding the country icon, Willie Nelson hit another special career moment this week. His album with Waylon Jennings, Wanted! The Outlaws, celebrated its 45-year anniversary.
The album features hit songs including “Mammas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys,” “It’s Not Supposed to Be That Way,” “I Can Get Off on You,” and “A Couple More Years.”
