Taylor Sheridan has been keeping himself busy lately with a plethora of upcoming projects, from TV to film. One of which will include popular action actress, Angelina Jolie.
Season four of Paramount Network’s “Yellowstone” starring Kevin Costner is currently underway. There are also two shows related to the series coming soon, “Y:1883” and “6666.”
He is also in pre-production for “Fast” and “Lioness.” Fans are particularly looking forward to the film called “Those Who Wish Me Dead.” It is set to come out on May 14, 2021.
Taylor Sheridan and ‘Those Who Wish Me Dead’
The thriller stars actress and humanitarian Angelina Jolie, Finn Little, Joe Bernthal, and Nicholas Hoult. It is about a young boy who must go on the run after witnessing a murder. He has to survive the Montana wilderness as twin assassins attempt to hunt him down as their next victim. However, he isn’t alone in trying to survive. A survival expert firefighter and smokejumper, played by Jolie, stumbled upon him while parachuting into the growing wildfire.
They then work together to escape both the fire and the assassins.
Along the way, a deadly forest fire continues to rage in the area and could be disastrous for everyone involved. This film aligns perfectly with Sheridan’s talent for Western-themed thrillers and dramas. This includes “Sicario,” “Hell or High Water,” and “Wind River.”
Jolie was drawn to the movie because she said Sheridan, “has a unique voice when it comes to characters within America.” Her character, Hannah, is a balance of tough and vulnerable. She risks everything to help Connor but is also hiding her own inner demons.
Angelina Jolie as a Smokejumper
Jolie herself is no stranger to playing tough, bad-ass characters on the big screen. She is known for her collection of action films like “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider,” “Salt,” and “Mr. & Mrs. Smith.”
Fire, at least to the degree Sheridan was willing to work with, was something Angelina Jolie had not dealt with yet in her career.
She told Entertainment Weekly that Sheridan bought a huge fake forest to then carefully burn to the ground. Jolie met with real firefighters to get a grasp of how to safely conquer her scenes. She is actually smokejumping in the film.
“The first day we were in the fire, [I noticed] the heat and how quickly the winds would change and how quickly the fire would suddenly take to a tree that you weren’t expecting. Our respect just grew day after day for these people on the front lines and how difficult this work is,” Jolie said.
Angelina Jolie also said that while she’s used to action films this was different. She said, “I’ve done action in fantasy. This was different because it was real.” Sheridan is known for his incorporation of modern realism. This movie showcases the real struggle of wildfires and the wilderness.
She explained to People magazine that the movie transcends genres.
“On its surface, the story feels like a thriller, with a lot of really interesting characters and a great adventure across unusual terrain, inside a great fire. But, underneath, it’s an emotional film about people who are thrown together to survive.”
Similar to “Yellowstone,” the movie is dramatic and fictional, but still feels very real.
“Those Who Wish Me Dead” will premiere in theaters and on HBO Max.
