On Wednesday, President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump attended an annual ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery to pay tribute on Veterans Day.
Trump and his wife visited the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, along with Vice President Mike Pence and second lady Karen Pence.
“On Veterans Day, we pause to pay tribute to all who have proudly worn our Nation’s uniform. These Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, and Coast Guardsmen selflessly placed lives, well‑being, and security of others before their own,” Trump said in a statement issued before the event. “We enjoy the privileges of peace, prosperity, and freedom because of our veterans. And we are forever indebted to them beyond measure.”
Later on Wednesday afternoon, Melania paid tribute to those who have served our country in a Twitter post. She shared four black and white photos of the Veterans Day ceremony along with her message.
“On #VeteransDay, we paused @ArlingtonNatl to pay tribute to those who have served our country with dignity, courage & strength. We are forever grateful to our service members for the sacrifices they have made, their dedication to duty & their love of our great nation,” Melania tweeted.
Melania Trump Speaks Out on Election
On Sunday, first lady Melania Trump finally spoke out after President-elect Joe Biden’s presidential victory.
The first lady has been reserved on social media in the days following the Nov. 3 presidential election. As expected, this year’s election results were not confirmed on Election Day itself. The election saw a huge uptick in mail-in ballots due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, the election held one of the largest voter turnouts in the nation’s history.
However, President Trump has refused to concede the election. In fact, Trump has fought back against the election’s results. He even claimed victory on Twitter saying he “WON THIS ELECTION, BY A LOT!“
Likewise, Melania echoed her husband’s statement and tweeted that Americans deserve fair elections. In addition, she said we must protect our democracy.
“The American people deserve fair elections. Every legal – not illegal – vote should be counted. We must protect our democracy with complete transparency,” Melania tweeted.
