Florida Planning to Allow Full Attendance for Miami Dolphins Home Games

The Miami Dolphins got permission from state officials to include 65,000 fans at their home games. That’s the full capacity for Hard Rock Stadium.

A spokesperson for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis confirmed as much. Talk show host Andy Slater broke the news:

The governor recently rolled back coronavirus restrictions in Florida. DeSantis’s spokesperson explained that as a result, all Florida stadiums can now book full capacity.

DeSantis made the change through an executive order. The order removed all restrictions on bars and restaurants. It also stopped local governments from shuttering businesses or fining people for pandemic-related reasons, the Orlando Sentinel reported.

The executive order does not affect the state of emergency that DeSantis declared in Florida. That applies through November 3. The state Capitol is still closed to the public, according to the Sentinel.

As of Wednesday, Florida had 722,707 confirmed cases of COIVD-19. The 14-day average positivity rate stood at 4.37%. The state saw 139 new deaths over the past 24 hours.

The governor himself tested negative for coronavirus on Friday. He met with President Trump in Jacksonville last week. A spokesman for DeSantis said the governor did not shake hands with Trump during that meeting.

Other National Football League teams have decided not to allow spectators during the 2020 season. Some are only allowing immediate family members of the players. And some are partially opening up to spectators, NBC Sports reported.

Still, the Miami Dolphins are not alone. The Atlanta Falcons, the Dallas Cowboys and the Kansas City Chiefs are also allowing spectators.
