Officials announced that former WWE champion Alberto Del Rio has been charged with four counts of sexual assault and 1 count of aggravated kidnapping after an incident with his ex-girlfriend in May.
In early May, police arrested Del Rio – whose real name is Jose Rodriguez Chucuanwas – in San Antonio, TX. His ex-girlfriend called the police on the pro wrestler saying he went into a rage after accusing her of cheating on him.
His ex-girlfriend claims Del Rio smashed her cell phone, her laptop, and tried to set her passport on fire. She says the violence began around 10 PM on May 3 and lasted until around 2:30 PM on May 4. Additionally, she claims Del Rio attacked her, which caused numerous injuries and left her “feeling woozy and dizzy from the hits to her head.”
Furthermore, the victim also claims Del Rio choked her. She says at one point he “shoved a sock into her mouth, to keep (her) quiet.”
“When the sock was in her mouth, she could not breathe,” she explained.
During the incident, the victim claims Del Rio also sexually assaulted her in the attack. She says she did not consent to any sexual activity with the wrestler that night.
The officer at the scene reported he saw “multiple bruises” on the victim’s face, arms, legs, and neck.
Del Rio, 43, is 6’4″, and weighs 240 pounds. From 2009 to 2016, he was a star in the WWE. Del Rio won the WWE championship, the 2011 Royal Rumble, and more. In addition, he’s also an MMA fighter, who lost to legendary fighter Tito Ortiz in December 2019.
