by Suzanne Halliburton

Gabby Barrett is enjoying a career-defining year. And on Monday, she received yet another heaping dose of good news about her song “I Hope.”

CMT announced that Barrett’s music video for the song was the most played on the network for 2020. The other videos in the top five were “The Bones” by Maren Morris; “Nobody But You” by Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani; “Bluebird” by Miranda Lambert and “More Hearts Than Mine” by Ingrid Andress.

CMT posted its top five on Instagram, writing “It’s been one heck of a year for music videos! 🎬 Here are the most played videos on #CMT in 2020.”

Gabby Barrett Celebrating 20 Years In 2020

Gabby Barrett is only 20 years old, so her country music career is still so new and fresh. Barrett isn’t even three years removed from her third-place finish on “American Idol,” the reality show that catapulted Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood into superstardom.

In June 2019, she released her debut album Goldmine. Barrett fans downloaded her album almost 16 million times during the first week after release. It broke the record for best streaming week ever by a female country artist in her album debut.

Then came “I Hope.” Barrett was one of the co-writers. She released the song independently and sang it on the seventeenth season of “American Idol.” Her performance attracted the attention of record companies. While on stage, Barrett announced she agreed to a deal with Warner Music Nashville.

Barrett doesn’t have a ton of life experience to draw upon to write her songs. After all, she’s only 20. But she is old enough to know how your heart hurts after a breakup. But she didn’t take the high road in her song. Instead, the song was the perfect breakup anthem. That’s because Barrett was the scorned woman who wished ill will on the boy who broke her heart.

Here’s a sampling of some of the song’s lyrics:

“I hope she comes along and wrecks every one of your plans, I hope you spend your last dime to put a rock on her hand. I hope she’s wilder than your wildest dreams, she’s everything you’re ever gonna need. And then I hope she cheats, like you did on me. And then I hope she cheats, like you did on me.”

Barrett redid the song earlier this year, adding Charlie Puth to the mix. Puth loved Barrett’s performance and messaged Barrett via Instagram to tell her. Puth said he would love to remix it.

The song now is in its 86th week on the country charts. That’s also a record.

Then in her personal life, Gabby Barrett is pregnant with her first child. She and her husband, Cade Foehner, married in 2019. They both were American Idol contestants.

What a year for Gabby Barrett.
