Gabby Petito: 911 Caller Reportedly Saw Brian Laundrie ‘Slapping’ Her Weeks Before Disappearance

by Leanne Stahulak

Police and FBI continue to investigate what happened to 22-year-old Gabby Petito, who went missing on Sept. 11 and whose remains might have been found in Grand Teton National Park. At this time, officials are still confirming the identity of the body, though they say it matches Petito’s description.

Petito disappeared during a cross-country road trip with her partner, Brian Laundrie. Her family members last heard from her at the end of August, but on Sept. 1, Laundrie showed up at his family’s home in North Port, Florida, alone.

No one has seen or heard from Gabby Petito since, and an autopsy later this week will determine if the body is hers and what the cause of death was. Authorities also continue to search for Laundrie, who’s been deemed a person of interest in the case but hasn’t been seen since Tuesday, Sept. 14.

Laundrie’s family’s home has since been converted into an official crime scene. As of right now, he’s not a suspect, but people do wonder what happened between him and Gabby Petito before he traveled to Florida. Because on Aug. 12, witnesses called 911 to report an argument between the two that might have involved physical violence.

Earlier today, Fox News released a story with the supposed 911 call to Grand County Sheriff’s Office from Aug 12. In the audio clip, the man contacting the sheriff’s office gives his location and wants to report a “domestic dispute.” He describes Petito’s “white van” with a “Florida license plate.”

When the dispatcher asks what they were doing, the caller says, “We drove by them and the gentleman was slapping the girl.”

“He was slapping her?” the dispatcher says incredulously.

“Yes, and then he stopped. They ran up and down the sidewalk, he proceeded to hit her, hopped in the car and they drove off,” the caller concludes. That’s all Fox News releases of the 911 call.

How Does This 911 Call Match-Up with the Body Cam Footage of Gabby Petito and Brian Laundrie?

Earlier this week, Fox 13 News out of Salt Lake City released the full one-hour and 17-minute bodycam footage taken by officers who met up with Gabby Petito and Brian Laundrie after their fight. You can watch the entire, unedited footage right here.

Right at the beginning of the video, you can see Petito crying in the passenger seat. The officer asks her to step out, away from Laundrie, and he asks her what happened. She starts telling the officers why they were fighting.

The officers also talk to Laundrie, who says nothing physical started until he told her to walk away in one direction while he walked away in another. He told officers he tried to “push her away” in the direction she was supposed to walk away, but then she started slapping and hitting him. The officers noted several scratches on his face and neck.

Later on in the video, the officers ask about Laundrie pushing her. Petito says he “grabbed” her face more, from her chin. One officer specifically asks about slapping, but Petito repeats that he grabbed her face to push her away from him.

At the end of the body cam footage, the officers tell Petito that she and Laundrie should spend time apart. She slept in the van that night while the officers set up Laundrie with a hotel room.

You can see a shorter, edited version of the body cam footage from USA Today in the clip below.
