Gabby Petito Case: Father of Petito, Joseph, Gives New Information on Foundation Made in Her Honor

by Matthew Memrick

Joseph Petito, the father of the late Gabby Petito, talked on Instagram about the foundation he created in her honor.

Petito said his charity would work to help other families in his situation.

“No one should have to find their child on their own,” Joseph Petito said.

The Blue Point, New York charity created a GoDaddy website. A giant picture of 22-year-old Gabby Petito with angel wings is prominent on the site. The website lists the late woman’s memorial service details for Sunday and offers a place for families to contact the charity.

When prompted to donate, a PayPal link goes to the Gabby Petito foundation and the John McNamara Foundation. According to NBC New York, Gabby Petito’s mother has volunteered for the foundation.

McNamara worked as New York City firefighter and helped during the 9/11 rescue efforts.

McNamara had 9/11-related stage 4 colon cancer in 2006 and died in 2009.

Gabby Petito’s Memorial Service

The website lists Gabby Petito’s memorial service on Sunday. The service goes from noon to 5 p.m. in the town of Holbrook, N.Y.

NBC New York said the service is open to the public, and donations will go to the McNamara foundation. The family seeks donations and not flowers.

Patch reported that the funeral home is expecting thousands of mourners on Sunday. Police encourage motorists to take alternate routes due to “periodic traffic restrictions” on the road near the funeral home.

“Attendees for the memorial service, as well as patrons of businesses along the section of Main Street, are encouraged to enter from the Furrows Road side of Main Street,” police said in a statement issued Saturday.

On Saturday, the family held a candlelight vigil for Gabby Petito in Blue Point. Patch reported on another candlelight vigil in Selden. In North Port, Florida, there was also a butterfly release on Saturday.

Gabby Petito had lived in the Florida town for the past two years.

The TV station said Petito family friend and Johnny McNamara Foundation founder Jennifer McNamara put ribbons outside the Petito family home.

Another family friend, Nichole Schmidt, said Gabby Petito was now “America’s Child.”

Authorities Pursue Petito’s Fiance

The FBI is still pursuing Gabby Petito’s fiancé, Brian Laundrie. Laundrie was reported missing, and his parents last saw in on Sept. 14.

Recently, the man had an arrest warrant issued over his use of Petito’s bank account. The 23-year-old Laundrie withdrew over $1,000 from Petito’s bank account at one point.

In a developing story, TV personality and bounty hunter Dog the Bounty Hunter (aka Duane Chapman) is involved in the search for Laundrie.

News Nation Now correspondent Brian Entin filmed Chapman as he visited the home of Gabby Petito’s fiance and searched for clues that may lead to finding the missing man.
