As part of his Dr. Phil interview, Gabby Petito’s father, Joseph Petito, made his feelings on the Laundrie family’s response to her disappearance crystal clear.
In the timeline of Gabby Petito’s case, her father would speak to the beloved television personality before the discovery of a body in a campground outside Grand Teton National Park. It’s heartbreaking to see a father speak after the FBI’s statement citing their belief the body belongs to his daughter. Yet the interview brings crucial dialogue from Joe to the table.
Some of the questions Joe Petito continues to ask himself are: “When did [Brian] get an attorney? Did your parents aid and embed you in a crime?” he tells Dr. Phil.
And when Joe heard his daughter’s fiance was refusing to speak to police?
“I screamed…. I screamed. My wife couldn’t even console me,” Petito answers. “I thought the worst. That’s my baby.”
Joe was 20-years-old when Gabby was born, he explains. “She saved my life. I was going the wrong way in life,” he says of his firstborn. “She made me into the person I am today. So I broke down. I was crying, I was screaming.”
Finally, Joe, says, he was able to compose himself. “I gotta get her home,” he says, became his focus.
“Because he’s not helping us to,” Joe says of Gabby Petito’s fiance, Brian Laundrie. “I’m not allowed to contact him. I’m not allowed to be anywhere or go anywhere near him. And if I did, all it would do is stop me from the primary focus of finding Gabby. So, I’m doing what I know best: bring my daughter home.”
In the end, a frustrated Joe Petito says, “That’s all I can do right now.”
Gabby Petito’s Father ‘Breaks Down’ Laundrie Family Statement on Search for His Daughter
As authorities searched for Gabby, the Laundrie family released a statement citing it as a difficult time for both families. But Joe Petito isn’t buying it. Neither is the public.
“My child is nowhere to be found. And I’m not getting any answers on even where to start,” Joe says, furious. “So don’t sit there and tell me how difficult it is for you because you’ve got reporters on your block. My heart bleeds for you,” he says ironically.
Today, a desperate father pleads for answers about his missing daughter. In July, twenty-two-year-old Gabby Petito set off from Florida on a cross-country van trip with her fiancé, but two months later, he returned alone. He has since hired a lawyer and is refusing to speak to Gabby’s parents and the police. Police revealed the couple had an altercation in the days before Gabby vanished — and their subsequent interaction with officers was caught on camera. Gabby Petito’s father says he is determined to find his daughter and bring her home safe.Dr. Phil
“I don’t know about you, but when I want something to be successful, I will partake and help,” Joe slams. “I will make sure it is successful! Not sit in the background, alright?”
As for Brian Laundrie, Joe says “If you love this person and she is your fiance, then you should turn around and, I don’t know, lead the darn charge! But he’s sitting there behind his mom like he’s 4-years-old!”
