Gabby Petito’s Best Friend Is Convinced Brian Laundrie Is ‘Out in the Wilderness’

The search for Brian Laundrie, the boyfriend of the late Gabby Petito, continued on Saturday, Sept. 25. Law enforcement officers are searching for the 23-year-old Laundrie in connection with Petito’s death.

Her death was ruled a homicide by an autopsy performed after her body was found close to the Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming on Sunday, Sept. 19. Petito was 22 years old at the time of death. She had not been seen since Aug. 24. Her parents reported her as missing on Sept. 11.

The last time Laundrie was seen was on Sept. 14. He had returned to the Florida home where he lived with his parents on Sept. 1. He and Petito had been traveling across the United States in a white Ford van.

Recently, Rose Davis, one of Gabby Petito’s best friends shared her thoughts about what Laundrie is possibly doing while he evades law enforcement. “He is out in the wilderness, I promise you,” Davis told PEOPLE. “He’s out there. He is. If he’s alive, he’s out there, camping out …”

She also said that living outdoors alone for a long period of time is something Laundrie has done before. “He lived in the Appalachians by himself for months,” she shared.

The search for Laundrie has been focused on the 25,000-acre nature reserve known as the Carlton Reserve. The area is mostly wetlands. The search for him has utilized divers, dogs, and drones.

Best Friend Describes Loss of Gabby Petito as ‘A Very Heartbreaking Tragedy’

Rose Davis said she believes that Brian Laundrie is living outdoors and doing what he can to avoid being found. She also said she does not believe that someone is giving him a place to hide. “He does not have friends. He reads books,” Gabby Petito’s best friend also shared.

After Laundrie initially disappeared, Davis said she was concerned that he might come to her house. “He knows where I live. When he first went missing, there was a small percentage of me that was like, he definitely knows where I live. And he does not like me,” she explained.

Davis has also been sharing what she knows about Laundrie with the FBI and other law enforcement agents. She has also expressed how upsetting it feels to have someone you know have possibly murdered a very close friend.

“I’ve stayed at their house. I’ve slept in the same house as him. I ate dinners with him, played board games with him, gone to the beach — even though he didn’t really hang out with us at the beach — but going to the beach with him. That’s scary,” Davis explained.

Unsurprisingly, Rose Davis was very sad to lose her friend, Gabby Petito. The loss is something that she finds hard to believe.

“This is a very heartbreaking tragedy. It is so surreal. It is so just horrific. There’s almost a loss of words for it because no one deserves to go out this way, especially not her,” Davis also said.

A memorial visitation for Gabby Petito will be held on Sunday, Sept. 26.
