For the parents of Gabby Petito, Saturday was the first Christmas that they would be without their beloved daughter.

According to law enforcement, 22-year-old Gabby Petito was strangled to death before being found at Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming. Weeks after her passing, authorities located Petito’s body at a campsite in the park.

After she had been reported missing, her fiancé Brian Laundrie quickly became a person of interest in the case. As a matter of fact, he was reportedly the only person of interest. He died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head disappearing into the Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park, according to the authorities.

In light of the tragedy, Joseph Petito, Gabby’s father, took to social media. It’s officially the family’s first Christmas without their daughter.

“Merry Christmas to my baby girl in heaven,” Petito tweeted. “I can’t call you, I can’t hear your voice, and I can’t hug you. What I can do is say we love and miss you. Damn, today is a hard day, but we will get through this together. #neverthesame #MerryChristmas #GABBYPETITO”

On Thursday, Petito tweeted another message to his followers. He wants everyone across the country to celebrate the holidays with their loved ones and be thankful for the time with them.

“Christmas is just about here. Be thankful, thoughtful, and loving to all and for all. Celebrate the lives of the ones who can not be here. They would want to see you smile. Merry Christmas.”

Gabby Petito’s Dad Met With Support on Social Media

There is no doubt that the family of Gabby Petito has been through a terrible tragedy. After losing Gabby earlier this year, they likely knew that the upcoming holidays were going to be tough on them without her.

Even though nothing can ever bring their daughter back, the family has a ton of support from people on social media still to this day.

“My mom got me a #gabbypetito foundation sweatshirt for Christmas today and I cried when I opened it. Her story will stay with me forever,” one person said. “She has changed the lives of so many women and will continue to do so. Thank you for keeping her memory.”

“What your daughter’s story is doing for the rights of victims everywhere will keep her name and existence alive forever,” another fan said. “Thank you for sharing her memory with the world and changing lives despite the pain of losing her.”

“Thinking about your family and Gabby today,” said a third follower. “I am so sorry and pray for healing for you all. The holidays make it hard, maybe start a new tradition during Xmas in her honor. Something she loved during this time. Sending love from our family to yours.”
