Garth Brooks Drive-In Concert

Garth Brooks’ Drive-In Concert Draws Over 350,000 Fans

Garth Brooks drew in over 350,000 fans across the United States and Canada for a drive-in style concert on Saturday (June 27).

Brooks’ concert is the first of its kind. The show was simulcasted to 300 drive-in movie theaters. This could very well be the future of concerts for the time being due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Each drive-in adhered to CDC guidelines along with state and local mandates.

Most of the reviews were positive and fans seemed to enjoy themselves at the shows. However, some fans didn’t realize that it wasn’t a live-streamed concert, although it was clear on the ticket that it was a pre-recorded concert.

Brooks isn’t the only artist that is trying out new ways for fans to experience music. Similarly, Alan Jackson held drive-in concerts in person earlier this month. Although most artists are adhering to guidelines, some artists, like Chase Rice and Chris Janson are going another route. The two country stars performed typical concerts to large crowds without masks or social distancing.

The Drive-In Experience

Concert-goers paid $100 per carload to experience the overall one of a kind evening. The events allowed guests to stand beside their cars and enjoy the show with social distancing in place.

Firstly, the show began with the opening act, Randall King. Instead of a typical concert film, a handful of music videos of King’s played for the crowd.

Brooks hit the virtual stage with “Ain’t Goin’ Down (‘Til the Sun Comes Up).” Overall, he performed a little over an hour and a half with eighteen songs in total. After the final song, fans were clapping and honking their car horns in excitement. Overall, fans were thrilled with the especially epic show.

“This time, I was the fan and the people were the entertainment,” Brooks said in a press release. “Watching people all night from coast to coast, in Canada and here in the U.S., laughing, dancing, and singing, made me smile.”

“It reminded me how much I miss the crazy, happy, and unpredictable life we lead as entertainers,” he added. “For one night, things seemed right.”

If you can’t get enough of the 58-year-old hitmaker’s music, be sure to tune into his Garth Request Live stream on July 7 on Facebook.
